The Chicago Blackhawks are set to open training camp on Friday at the University of Notre Dame, and the biggest question surrounding the team heading into it is whether Patrick Kane will be there when it starts.
On Wednesday, everyone got their answer when the team announced that Kane will be in attendance. The confirmation came shortly after the team’s training camp roster was released with Kane included in the lineup.
There was no confirmation, or denial for that matter, regarding Kane speaking with reporters about the rape allegations. Both general manager Stan Bowman and head coach Joel Quenneville will, however, talk to reporters. It’s almost a guarantee that both men will have to speak about the investigation against their top player for the first time since news broke in early August.
Kane is being investigated for an alleged rape that took place during the early morning hours on August 2 at his Hamburg, NY residence. A grand jury was slated to begin earlier this month, but it was delayed for unconfirmed reasons.
Hamburg and Erie County authorities have been interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence from the case for over a month, with a grand jury expected to hear the case in the coming days. As of now, Kane has not been charged with any crime.
