Couturier was injured when he was checked by Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals in last night’s game one matchup. Ovechkin connected on the hit just after Couturier sent a cross-ice pass from the left-wing boards. Video of the incident is below…
Couturier attempted to continue play but was unable to play a puck sent in his direction. He headed to the bench and eventually the Flyers locker room and did not return to action.
With Couturier expected to miss two weeks, it’s safe to say he’s done for the remainder of the series. The Flyers, after losing last night’s contest by a score of 2-0, trail the Capitals in the series heading into game two which takes place tomorrow evening.
Couturier played in 63 regular-season games this year, tallying 11 goals and 39 total points. He’ll leave a tough void to fill on the defensive side of the puck, as he’s known for his two-way play and ability to shut down opposing offensive threats.
