The New York Rangers have re-signed restricted free agent defenseman Tommy Hughes to a one-year, two-way contract, according to the team.

His NHL salary for the 2016-17 season will be $632,500.
Hughes, 24, skated in 59 games with the Rangers’ AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolfpack, in 2015-16, netting two goals and nine total points with a minus-five rating.
Since turning pro in 2013, the London, Ontario native has tallied 25 points in 173 AHL games in Hartford. He has yet to make his NHL debut.

Tommy Hughes played junior hockey with his hometown London Knights in the Ontario Hockey League. In four seasons, he logged 32 points in 169 games with a plus-55 rating. He served as an alternate captain on London’s OHL Championship winning team in 2012-13. The Knights also won the OHL title during the 2011-12 campaign.
Hughes will likely start the 2016-17 season with the Wolfpack. The 6-foot-2, 225-pound blueliner has served as a defensive anchor for the team for three years now. He is a physical stay-at-home defenseman who can also make a good first pass out of the defensive zone.
