Dean Arsene (born July 20, 1980) is a former Canadian ice hockey player, having played his final year in the NHL with the Edmonton Oilers during the 2009-2010 season. Undrafted at the NHL level, Arsene built up a reputation of an enforcer who wasn’t afraid to take on all combatants. In 202 games with the Kootenay Ice in the Western Hockey League (WHL), he recorded just six goals and 27 points, but amassed a total of 439 penalty minutes. Arsene made his debut in the ECHL during the 2001-02 season, playing for the Charlotte Checkers and totalling 101 penalty minutes in 63 games.

It wasn’t until the 2003-04 season when Arsene found himself a stable home to play in. Joining the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL), he remained with the club for six seasons, serving as their captain for two years and as an alternate captain in his final year. He hit career-highs in points (15) and penalty minutes (187) during the 2006-07 season, one year removed from capturing his first AHL Calder Cup Championship.

Arsene joined the Oilers’ organization in 2009 and made his NHL debut, appearing in 13 games and finishing with no points, 41 penalty minutes, and a minus-3 rating. He spent the remainder of the year in the AHL with the Springfield Falcons, serving as the team’s captain. He remained in the AHL for four more seasons in a leadership role, playing as the captain for the Peoria Rivermen, Portland Pirates, and Abbotsford Heat, as well as an alternate captain for the St. John’s IceCaps. Arsene retired at the conclusion of the 2013-14 season, finishing his AHL career with 1,256 penalty minutes in 624 games.
