Dennis Bonvie (born July 23, 1973) is a former Canadian ice hockey player, having played his final year in the NHL with the Colorado Avalanche during the 2003-2004 season. Undrafted at the NHL level, Bonvie signed with the Cape Breton Oilers of the American Hockey League (AHL) in 1993. At 5-feet-11 and over 200 pounds, he wasn’t known for his production but rather his ability to drop the gloves and take on any customer. In his rookie season in the AHL, he accumulated 278 penalty minutes in 63 games, finishing with one goal and 11 points. He made his NHL debut during the 1994-95 season, appearing in two games with the Edmonton Oilers.

The following year, he played in just eight games with the Oilers, spending the remainder of the year with Cape Breton. He amassed 269 penalty minutes in 38 games, but his most notable contribution during that year came in the NHL preseason, when he dropped the gloves against Bob Probert of the Detroit Red Wings. After two more years with the Oilers’ organization, Bonvie moved on to the Chicago Blackhawks. He appeared in 11 games, failing to register a point, and was later traded to the Philadelphia Flyers for forward Frank Bialowas.

Bonvie’s journey through the NHL included stops with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Boston Bruins, Ottawa Senators, and Colorado Avalanche. He registered a career high in games played during the 1999-2000 season with the Penguins when he started in 28 games, and he registered his first and only NHL goal with the Bruins during the 2001-02 season. Bonvie spent the final three seasons with the Penguins’ organization, playing solely for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. He retired at the conclusion of the 2007-08 season, finishing with 4,493 penalty minutes in 871 AHL games.
