Ed Sandford (born January 25, 1927) is a Canadian ice hockey player, having played his final year in the NHL with the Chicago Blackhawks during the 1955-56 season. Signed by the Boston Bruins in 1947, Sandford played in eight of his ten NHL seasons with the Bruins, leading the team in scoring during the 1953 playoffs with eight goals and three assists in 11 games. Sandford set career highs in assists (31) and points (47) during the 1953-54 season, in which he appeared in 70 games. The following year, he was named captain of the Bruins and registered a 14-goal campaign in 60 games, his seventh season of at least ten goals. In 42 post-season games, all with Boston, he amassed 24 points (13 goals, 11 assists).
In the 1955 off-season, Sandford was dealt to the Detroit Red Wings in a massive nine-player trade, the largest transaction in the NHL at the time. After going scoreless in four games with Detroit, he was traded to the Blackhawks for Metro Prystai. Sandford finished the 1955-56 season in Chicago, registering 21 points (12 goals, 9 assists) in 57 games, and announced his retirement at the conclusion of the season.
Following his playing career, Sandford re-joined the Bruins organization in several off-ice roles, such as a goal judge, official scorer, and a supervisor to off-ice officials. He is currently the Bruins’ oldest living former captain.
