Rangers Sign Jesper Fast and J.T. Miller

The New York Rangers have locked up two of their three remaining restricted free agents with the announcement that they’ve reached an agreement on contracts with both Jesper Fast and J.T. Miller.

Fast will make $950K per year on a two-year contract, according to The New York Post’s Larry Brooks.

The 23-year-old Fast played 58 regular season games last season, posting six goals and eight assists, as well as a 2.4% score-adjusted CF%Rel. He also played 11 games with the Hartford Wolf Pack, scoring a goal and eight assists.

Fast was particularly noticeable in his 19 playoff games because of his ability to help hockey writers and hockey tweeters make puns about the game. He also played pretty well early in the postseason, scoring three goals and three assists while absorbing lots of defensive zone starts.

Fast was a 6th round pick for the Rangers back in 2010.

Miller has been put on a one-year deal that will pay him $874K, according to The New York Post’s Larry Brooks.

In his 21-year-old season he broke out, scoring a career-high 10 goals and 13 assists through 58 games. He also played 18 games with the Hartford Wolf Pack last season, scoring six goals and nine assists. He’s played 114 career NHL games.

Miller also jumped into all 19 Rangers playoff games, scoring one goal and seven assists.

After these two signings, the only remaining restricted free agent the Rangers have is Derek Stepan, whose negotiations are ongoing and may reach arbitration.
