Anaheim Ducks
-Rookie Frederik Andersen sent down to the AHL this week. He has played unbelievable to date (6-1-0, .943SV%, 1.66GAA), much like Fasth last year. Hiller has struggled – is trade possible?
Boston Bruins
-The Bruin’s endured a devastating loss to the Ottawa Senators on Friday. The B’s let in 4 straight to Ottawa after carrying 2 goal lead, with three goals in 3rd.
Buffalo Sabres
-Massive turnover in Buffalo. Head coach Ron Rolston and GM Darcy Regier out, interim head coach Ted Nolan and President of Hockey Ops Pat Lafontaine return to right the ship.
Calgary Flames
-Prospect Max Reinhart sent down to AHL this week. Lee Stempniak returned, but has been -3 along with two uncharacteristic fights and zero points. Not the same player since injury.
Carolina Hurricanes
-Top winger Alex Semin left Saturday’s game against the Blues with an upper-body injury. Recipient of a huge hit by Alex Pietrangelo. Semin has only 3 goals and 9 assists.
Chicago Blackhawks
-Reacquired a member of their Cup-winning team, Kris Versteeg, from the Panthers. Versteeg has looked great in Chicago since the trade, with 1 goal and 2 assists in 2 games.
Colorado Avalanche
-The Avs were handed their third straight loss by the Florida Panthers on Saturday. Goaltender Semyon Varlamov is finally starting to look beatable, but Colorado still sits comfortably at 14-5-0.
Columbus Blue Jackets
-Top wing Marian Gaborik will be out at least a month due to knee injury. Gaborik has struggled greatly this season (11 pts) and rumors indicate he will be moved.
Dallas Stars
-The Stars crushed the Flames this week, with Tyler Seguin scoring 4 goals and one assist, and captain Jamie Benn scoring a career high 6 points (1 goal, 5 assists).
Detroit Red Wings
-Johan Franzen returned to active duty this week, looked great with 3 goals and 2 assists in 3 games. The Mule recovers from slow start (5 pts in 13 games).
Edmonton Oilers
-Free agent signee Ilya Bryzgalov has been recalled by the Oilers, and looks to start on Tuesday. The netminder let in 6 goals through 2 games of AHL action.
Florida Panthers
-Tim Thomas made his 5th straight start when Florida won 4-1 against the Avs. He has been inconsistent this season, usually with one bad game followed by a great one.
LA Kings
-Goalie Jon Quick has been diagnosed with a Grade 2 groin strain. Recovery could take up to 4-6 weeks. Backup Ben Scrivens has stepped up, with a shutout against NYR.
Minnesota Wild
-Goalie Niklas Backstrom took a nasty bump to the head from the elbow of Leafs C Nazem Kadri. He’s out with a concussion without a timetable for a return date.
Montreal Canadiens
-Montreal has struggled to score this week, with only 4 goals in 3 games. Despite sensational goaltending from Price and Budaj, the Habs have dropped 2 of 3 this week.
Nashville Predators
-The Preds thumped the champion Blackhawks by the tune of 7-2. Marek Mazanec got his first NHL win with 39 saves, and the 7 goals is a season high.
New Jersey Devils
-The Devils have won 4 in a row, and Marty is playing sensationally. The veteran, through two games this week, has let in only 3 goals on 63 shots.
NY Islanders
-The Isles lost netminder Evgeni Nabakov, who has not been great. This will give Kevin Poulin an opportunity to take the reins full-time, given Nabakov’s recent struggles.
NY Rangers
-Captain Cally scored the lone goal against the Habs this weekend, and Cam Talbot got his first NHL shutout. Could Prince Cam change King Henrik for playing time?
Ottawa Senators
-Winger Bobby Ryan was elbowed in the head by Boston’s Dennis Seidenberg, but was fortunately able to play against the Blue Jackets on Sunday. He had 2 shots, 5 hits.
Philadelphia Flyers
-Andrei Meszaros has not played since Nov.7. The Flyers are likely trying to trade him, but if that doesn’t work out, could he be waived soon? His cap – $4m.
Phoenix Coyotes
-Connor Murphy made his NHL debut against Tampa. He scored the game-winning goal, and had 5 hits in 22:32 of icetime. Surprisingly, he was demoted back to AHL on Sunday.
Pittsburgh Penguins
-Pens lost F Dustin Jeffries to the Dallas Stars on waivers. He has been productive at times with the team, but failed to find a spot with depth at center.
San Jose Sharks
-Jumbo Joe now leads the NHL in assists with 20. Prior to Sunday’s loss, Thornton was on a 7 game point streak, where he totaled 1 goal and 8 assists.
St. Louis Blues
-Alex Steen now leads the NHL in points (26) and is tied with Alex Ovechkin for the goal-scoring lead (17). His shot % is unsustainable, however, at 25.4% (career 9.8%).
Tampa Bay Lightning
-D Radko Gudas has drawn comparisons this week to Scott Niedermeyer for his physical presence. The punishing defender logged 19 hits this week, and is third in the league (74).
Toronto Maple Leafs
-Toronto acquired Peter Holland after losing Nazem Kadri to a 3-game suspension. Holland, a former first rounder, has upside, and could really flourish given an opportunity in Toronto.
Vancouver Canucks
-David Booth returned to the lineup this week, in a third line role. He hasn’t been very noticeable, with only 2 shots through 2 games (and zero points).
Washington Capitals
-Defenceman Mike Green was placed on IR on Sunday. Dmitry Orlov, a top prospect, was recalled from the AHL to replace Green. Orlov has 2 goals and 6 assists (AHL).
Winnipeg Jets
-Dustin Byfuglien has 4 goals in his past 4 games. Big Buff logged an impressive 31:29 against the Flyers, in a game where he scored 2 goals.
