5th Annual NHL Mock Draft: 2016, Rounds 4 to 7

Forging into uncharted territory for my mock drafts, Toronto is up again with the 92nd overall pick to begin a condensed version of rounds four through seven.

Fourth Round

92) Toronto Maple Leafs — Vladimir Kuznetsov (LW, Acadie-Bathurst, QMJHL)

Toronto Maple Leafs square logoHeight/Weight: 6-1, 214

Playoff Stats: 5 GP-0 G-1 A-1 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 68 GP-25 G-33 A-58 PTS

Central Scouting: 55 NAS

ANALYSIS: Leafs may liken him to Nikita Soshnikov, but no relation to Washington’s Evgeny.

93) Anaheim Ducks (from Edmonton) — Zach Sawchenko (G, Moose Jaw, WHL)

Anaheim Ducks square logoHeight/Weight: 6-1, 179

Playoff Stats: 10 GP-3.28 GAA-.911 Save%

Regular Season Stats: 51 GP-3.04 GAA-.916 Save%

Central Scouting: 6 NAG

ANALYSIS: Ducks could use a goalie prospect, especially with the expected departure of either Frederik Andersen, as a free agent, or John Gibson, via trade.

94) Florida Panthers (from Vancouver) — Otto Makinen (C, Tappara Jr., Finland)

Florida Panthers square logoHeight/Weight: 6-1, 179

Playoff Stats: 3 GP-0 G-2 A-2 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 47 GP-11 G-19 A-30 PTS

Central Scouting: 13 EUS

ANALYSIS: Best player available here, with potential to go a full round earlier.

95) Chicago Blackhawks (from Columbus) — Dylan Gambrell (C, University of Denver, NCAA)

Chicago Blackhawks square logoHeight/Weight: 6-0, 183

Playoff Stats: NA

Regular Season Stats: 41 GP-17 G-30 A-47 PTS

Central Scouting: 67 NAS

ANALYSIS: He’s an over-age prospect, turning 20 in August, but was one of the highest-scoring freshmen in college hockey after getting overlooked in last year’s NHL draft. Button has Gambrell ranked 85th and Future Considerations have him at 90th. The Blackhawks like their NCAA forwards, so it’s unlikely Gambrell gets past Chicago here.

96) Calgary Flames — Filip Berglund (RHD, Skelleftea Jr., Sweden)

Calgary Flames square logoHeight/Weight: 6-3, 209

Playoff Stats: 5 GP-1 G-3 A-4 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 43 GP-19 G-22 A-41 PTS

Central Scouting: 33 EUS

ANALYSIS: Big potential in this big Swede. Flames draft well on D.

97) Winnipeg Jets —  Brayden Burke (C/LW, Lethbridge, WHL)

Winnipeg Jets square logoHeight/Weight: 5-10, 163

Playoff Stats: 5 GP-2 G-2 A-4 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 72 GP-27 G-82 A-109 PTS

Central Scouting: 63 NAS

ANALYSIS: Jets tend to take a couple WHLers every year and Burke could be one of their mid-round targets for 2016. Button likes Burke a lot, ranking him 46th overall.

98) New York Rangers (from Arizona) — Eetu Tuulola (RW, HPK Jr., Finland)

New York Rangers square logoHeight/Weight: 6-3, 225

Playoff Stats: 6 GP-0 G-1 A-1 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 29 GP-9 G-5 A-14 PTS

Central Scouting: 19 EUS

ANALYSIS: Intriguing package of size and skill, but still a project.

99) Buffalo Sabres — Dylan Wells (G, Peterborough, OHL)

Buffalo Sabres square logoHeight/Weight: 6-2, 183

Playoff Stats: NA

Regular Season Stats: 27 GP-4.59 GAA-.871 Save%

Central Scouting: 10 NAG

ANALYSIS: Sabres may want another goaltending prospect in the system and in North America.

100) Montreal Canadiens — Otto Somppi (C, Halifax, QMJHL)

Montreal Canadiens square logoHeight/Weight: 6-1, 181

Playoff Stats: NA

Regular Season Stats: 59 GP-13 G-33 A-46 PTS

Central Scouting: 78 NAS

ANALYSIS: A Finn who played in Canada, didn’t have a great season but the upside is evident.

101) Toronto Maple Leafs (from Colorado) — Andrei Svetlakov (C, CSKA, KHL)

Toronto Maple Leafs square logoHeight/Weight: 6-0, 201

Playoff Stats: 8 GP-0 G-2 A-2 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 30 GP-7 G-3 A-10 PTS

Central Scouting: 24 EUS

ANALYSIS: Another Russian for Toronto? Like Kuznetsov, Svetlakov also has good size and he’s already playing against men and putting up decent numbers for his age. Svetlakov was one of Russia’s better players at this year’s world juniors, so teams will be considering him in this range.

102) New Jersey Devils — Trent Frederic (C, U.S. National Development Team)

New Jersey Devils square logoHeight/Weight: 6-1.75, 204 (CO)

Playoff Stats: NA

Regular Season Stats: 61 GP-20 G-20 A-40 PTS

Central Scouting: 47 NAS

ANALYSIS: Devils grab a faller here who could go as high as the second round but more likely somewhere in the third round. Bob McKenzie has Frederic ranked 54th and he’s drawn some comparisons to David Backes.

103) Ottawa Senators — Brandon Gignac (C, Shawinigan, QMJHL)

Ottawa Senators square logoHeight/Weight: 5-11, 172

Playoff Stats: 20 GP-7 G-9 A-16 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 67 GP-24 G-37 A-61 PTS

Central Scouting: 98 NAS

ANALYSIS: He had a good playoff for a good team, which could get Gignac into the third round, but the Senators would gladly take him here.

104) Carolina Hurricanes — Jesper Bratt (RW, AIK Div. II, Sweden)

Carolina Hurricanes square logoHeight/Weight: 5-10, 174

Playoff Stats: 10 GP-0 G-0 A-0 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 48 GP-8 G-9 A-17 PTS

Central Scouting: 17 EUS

ANALYSIS: High skill and arguably the best available player here.

105) New Jersey Devils (from Boston) — Jonathan Ang (C, Peterborough, OHL)

New Jersey Devils square logoHeight/Weight: 5-11, 163

Playoff Stats: 7 GP-3 G-6 A-9 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 68 GP-21 G-28 A-49 PTS

Central Scouting: 95 NAS

ANALYSIS: Another good value pick for the Devils. Ang was also another real standout from the combine, which may have increased his stock.

106) Minnesota Wild — Connor Ingram (G, Kamloops, WHL)

Minnesota Wild square logoHeight/Weight: 6-1, 194

Playoff Stats: 7 GP-2.12 GAA-.938 Save%

Regular Season Stats: 61 GP-2.61 GAA-.922 Save%

Central Scouting: 8 NAG

ANALYSIS: Wild go off the board a bit to take a goalie from Devan Dubnyk’s old junior team. Ingram was awesome in the playoffs, so assuming the scouts were watching, he should be a riser after getting passed over last year. Ingram can’t be compared to Dubnyk because he’s much shorter, but he’s similar to Dustin Tokarski, who backstopped Spokane to a Memorial Cup. Both are alums of the Prince Albert Mintos midget program and both hail from small-town Saskatchewan.

107) Detroit Red Wings — Kasper Bjorkqvist (LW, Blues Jr., Finland)

Detroit Red Wings square logoHeight/Weight: 6-1, 198

Playoff Stats: 2 GP-1 G-1 A-2 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 45 GP-28 G-38 A-66 PTS

Central Scouting: 22 EUS

ANALYSIS: He’s going the Gustav Nyquist route by coming to over to play NCAA at Providence College next season, so that makes Bjorkqvist all the more intriguing. A typical Detroit pick that could turn into a steal, Bob McKenzie has Bjorkqvist at 79th. Despite already taking a goalie, the Red Wings might have wanted Ingram here too, considering he attended their prospect camp last summer.

108) Nashville Predators — Jacob Neveu (RHD, Rouyn-Noranda, QMJHL)

Nashville Predators square logoHeight/Weight: 6-2, 205

Playoff Stats: 20 GP-1 G-4 A-5 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 59 GP-2 G-14 A-16 PTS

Central Scouting: 107 NAS

ANALYSIS: Preds don’t have a current need for defencemen but could use another quality prospect on the back end. Neveu comes from a winning program and is among the best players available here.

109) Philadelphia Flyers — Beck Malenstyn (C, Calgary, WHL)

Philadelphia Flyers square logoHeight/Weight: 6-2, 192

Playoff Stats: 5 GP-2 G-1 A-3 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 70 GP-8 G-17 A-25 PTS

Central Scouting: 73 NAS

ANALYSIS: Flyers get a faller who had the potential to be a first-rounder before a disappointing draft year.

110) New York Islanders — Mikhail Maltsev (LW, Russian U18 Team)

New York Islanders square logoHeight/Weight: 6-3, 198

Playoff Stats: 3 GP-0 G-2 A-2 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 29 GP-11 G-12 A-23 PTS

Central Scouting: 37 EUS

ANALYSIS: Islanders go for the gusto with this high-risk, high-reward Russian. There’s lots to like about Maltsev, and Bob McKenzie’s scouts liked him enough to rank Maltsev at No. 80.

111) San Jose Sharks (from Rangers) — Matt Filipe (C/LW, Cedar Rapids, USHL)

San Jose Sharks square logoHeight/Weight: 6-2, 203

Playoff Stats: 5 GP-1 G-2 A-3 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 56 GP-19 G-17 A-36 PTS

Central Scouting: 51 NAS

ANALYSIS: Sharks take a Tommy Wingels type who also had 99 penalty minutes. Future Considerations have Filipe ranked 62nd and Bob McKenzie slotted him 63rd, so he could be long gone by this spot.

112) Los Angeles Kings — Tomas Soustal (RW/C, Kelowna, WHL)

Los Angeles Kings square logoHeight/Weight: 6-3, 198

Playoff Stats: 18 GP-5 G-7 A-12 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 58 GP-20 G-26 A-46 PTS

Central Scouting: 164 NAS

ANALYSIS: Kings get a streaky forward who found his consistency in the playoffs and scored a series-clinching overtime goal for Kelowna. Soustal has size and skill, so he’ll get drafted at some point this year after getting passed over in 2015.

113) Chicago Blackhawks — Anatoli Golyshev (LW/RW, Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg, KHL)

Chicago Blackhawks square logoHeight/Weight: 5-8, 179

Playoff Stats: 6 GP-1 G-0 A-1 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 56 GP-25 G-19 A-44 PTS

Central Scouting: NA

ANALYSIS: Hawks try for another Artemi Panarin with this off-the-board over-ager. I must give a stick tap to Elliotte Friedman for tipping me off to Golyshev, who is already 21 (born in 1995) but remains draft eligible rather than a free agent like Panarin was when Chicago signed him out of Russia last spring. Golyshev’s stat-line in the KHL speaks to his skill level and is quite comparable to Panarin’s from the previous season when the Calder favourite scored 26 goals in 54 KHL games (albeit with more assists to total 62 points).

114) Florida Panthers — Nicholas Caamano (RW, Flint, OHL)

Florida Panthers square logoHeight/Weight: 6-1, 183

Playoff Stats: NA

Regular Season Stats: 64 GP-20 G-17 A-37 PTS

Central Scouting: 69 NAS

ANALYSIS: Here’s another survivor of that Flint mess, a player who could take a big leap in production with some stability in his surroundings.

115) Anaheim Ducks — Daniel Kurovsky (LW, Vitkovice Jr., Czech Republic)

Anaheim Ducks square logoHeight/Weight: 6-3, 198

Playoff Stats: 10 GP-4 G-5 A-9 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 29 GP-19 G-17 A-36 PTS

Central Scouting: 29 EUS

ANALYSIS: Ducks go for a potential sleeper, a hard-nosed winger with high skill. Anaheim got fellow Czech sleeper Ondrej Kase in the seventh round in 2014.

116) Dallas Stars — Jacob Cederholm (RHD, HV71 Jr., Sweden)

Dallas Stars square logoHeight/Weight: 6-3, 187

Playoff Stats: 3 GP-2 G-0 A-2 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 35 GP-1 G-4 A-5 PTS

Central Scouting: 16 EUS

ANALYSIS: Stars go best player available, grabbing the brother of Canucks prospect Anton — both serve as stay-at-home defenders who are hard to play against. Bob McKenzie has this Cederholm ranked 78th.

117) Washington Capitals —  Josh Anderson (LHD, Prince George, WHL)

Washington Capitals square logoHeight/Weight: 6-2, 220

Playoff Stats: NA

Regular Season Stats: 39 GP-1 G-5 A-6 PTS

Central Scouting: 60 NAS

ANALYSIS: Capitals pick a Brooks Orpik type, a defender with an edge as evidenced by Anderson’s 86 penalty minutes. Anderson will play for former NHL defenceman and Stanley Cup champion Richard Matvichuk next season — recently named P.G.’s new head coach — which should help maximize his potential. Anderson had a rough draft year injury-wise, but he came into the WHL as a third overall bantam draft pick from 2013, so he’s always had good upside. Bob McKenzie’s scouts still like Anderson, ranking him 61st.

118) Tampa Bay Lightning — Igor Svyrev (C, Magnitogorsk Jr., Russia)

Tampa Bay Lightning square logoHeight/Weight: 6-0, 192

Playoff Stats: 8 GP-1 G-4 A-5 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 44 GP-12 G-26 A-38 PTS

Central Scouting: 23 EUS

ANALYSIS: He’s got high-end skills and a lot of scouts are talking about him. A good bet to be off the board in this round.

119) St. Louis Blues — Colton Bobyk (LHD, Red Deer, WHL)

St. Louis Blues square logoHeight/Weight: 6-2 198

Playoff Stats: 15 GP-2 G-6 A-8 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 72 GP-20 G-27 A-47 PTS

Central Scouting: 204 NAS

ANALYSIS: The next Colton Parayko? There are some similarities beyond the name for this late-bloomer who is already 20 years old but left an impression on scouts during the Memorial Cup. Bobyk also had 96 penalty minutes this season.

120) San Jose Sharks — Stephen Dhillon (G, Niagara, OHL)

San Jose Sharks square logoHeight/Weight: 6-4, 181

Playoff Stats: 1 GP-0.00 GAA-1.000 Save%

Regular Season Stats: 24 GP-2.69 GAA-.908 Save%

Central Scouting: 22 NAG

ANALYSIS: Martin Jones has the crease locked down for the foreseeable future, but the Sharks could use another goalie prospect and it could be an OHL backup, be it Dhillon, Joseph Raaymakers, or Jeremy Helvig. Dhillon is the tallest of the three and served as the understudy to American world-junior standout Alex Nedeljkovic.

121) Pittsburgh Penguins — Markus Nurmi (RW/LW, TPS Jr., Finland)

Pittsburgh Penguins square logoHeight/Weight: 6-3, 168

Playoff Stats: 2 GP-0 G-0 A-0 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 49 GP-19 G-17 A-36 PTS

Central Scouting: 31 EUS

ANALYSIS: Penguins go with their best player available, yet another skilled Finn with good size. This draft is full of them. Future considerations have him 69th.

Recapping the Fourth Round

92) Toronto Maple Leafs — Vladimir Kuznetsov (LW, Acadie-Bathurst, QMJHL)

93) Anaheim Ducks (from Edmonton) — Zach Sawchenko (G, Moose Jaw, WHL)

95) Chicago Blackhawks (from Columbus) — Dylan Gambrell (C, University of Denver, NCAA)

96) Calgary Flames — Filip Berglund (RHD, Skelleftea Jr., Sweden)

97) Winnipeg Jets — Brayden Burke (C/LW, Lethbridge, WHL)

98) New York Rangers (from Arizona) — Eetu Tuulola (RW, HPK Jr., Finland)

99) Buffalo Sabres — Dylan Wells (G, Peterborough, OHL)

100) Montreal Canadiens — Otto Somppi (C, Halifax, QMJHL)

101) Toronto Maple Leafs (from Colorado) — Andrei Svetlakov (C, CSKA, KHL)

102) New Jersey Devils — Trent Frederic (C, U.S. National Development Team)

103) Ottawa Senators — Brandon Gignac (C, Shawinigan, QMJHL)

104) Carolina Hurricanes — Jesper Bratt (RW, AIK Div. II, Sweden)

105) New Jersey Devils (from Boston) — Jonathan Ang (C, Peterborough, OHL)

106) Minnesota Wild — Connor Ingram (G, Kamloops, WHL)

107) Detroit Red Wings — Kasper Bjorkqvist (LW, Blues Jr., Finland)

108) Nashville Predators — Jacob Neveu (RHD, Rouyn-Noranda, QMJHL)

109) Philadelphia Flyers — Beck Malenstyn (C, Calgary, WHL)

110) New York Islanders — Mikhail Maltsev (LW, Russian U18 Team)

111) San Jose Sharks (from Rangers) — Matt Filipe (C/LW, Cedar Rapids, USHL)

112) Los Angeles Kings — Tomas Soustal (RW/C, Kelowna, WHL)

113) Chicago Blackhawks — Anatoli Golyshev (LW/RW, Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg, KHL)

114) Florida Panthers — Nicholas Caamano (RW, Flint, OHL)

115) Anaheim Ducks — Daniel Kurovsky (LW, Vitkovice Jr., Czech Republic)

116) Dallas Stars — Jacob Cederholm (RHD, HV71 Jr., Sweden)

117) Washington Capitals — Josh Anderson (LHD, Prince George, WHL)

118) Tampa Bay Lightning — Igor Svyrev (C, Magnitogorsk Jr., Russia)

119) St. Louis Blues — Colton Bobyk (LHD, Red Deer, WHL)

120) San Jose Sharks — Stephen Dhillon (G, Niagara, OHL)

121) Pittsburgh Penguins — Markus Nurmi (RW/LW, TPS Jr., Finland)

Traded Picks

Edmonton to Anaheim

Vancouver to Florida

Columbus to Chicago

Arizona to New York Rangers

Colorado to Toronto

Ottawa to New Jersey

Boston to New Jersey

New York Rangers to San Jose

Fifth Round

122) Toronto Maple Leafs — Nicolas Mattinen (RHD, London, OHL)

Toronto Maple Leafs square logoHeight/Weight: 6-4, 220

Playoff Stats: 5 GP-1 G-0 A-1 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 39 GP-4 G-6 A-10 PTS

Central Scouting: 136 NAS

ANALYSIS: Another Knight, one who was a healthy scratch for much of this season but should play a bigger role for London next season. A lot of teams will be contemplating the big righty in this range. Toronto passed on Mete, but makes it three prospects from London with Mattinen joining Pu and Parsons in the Leafs’ organization.

123) Edmonton Oilers — Jordan Sambrook (RHD, Erie, OHL)

Edmonton Oilers square logoHeight/Weight: 6-1.75, 187 (CO)

Playoff Stats: 13 GP-0 G-4 A-4 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 67 GP-9 G-18 A-27 PTS

Central Scouting: 96 NAS

ANALYSIS: Seemingly a prime target for the Oilers here, another right-handed defenceman who is significantly bigger than Quenneville and quite well rounded but not as offensively talented. As mentioned, Edmonton has bolstered its scouting in Ontario, so Sambrook will surely be on the Oilers’ radar.

124) Montreal Canadiens (from Vancouver) — Joseph Woll (G, U.S. National Development Team)

Montreal Canadiens square logoHeight/Weight: 6-3, 196

Playoff Stats: NA

Regular Season Stats: 33 GP-2.14 GAA-.918 Save%

Central Scouting: 5 NAG

ANALYSIS: Woll’s play at the U18 tournament and the fact he’s bound for Boston College should get him selected in the middle rounds. The Habs could use another young goaltender in the system. Button has Woll as his 62nd-ranked prospect overall and Future Considerations have him at 70th.

125) St. Louis Blues (from Columbus) — Brett Murray (LW, Carleton Place, CCHL)

St. Louis Blues square logoHeight/Weight: 6-5, 212

Playoff Stats: 16 GP-5 G-8 A-13 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 48 GP-14 G-32 A-46 PTS

Central Scouting: 83 NAS

ANALYSIS: He doesn’t turn 18 until July 20, making Murray one of the younger draft-eligibles. The Blues don’t hesitate to draft players out of Junior A, but you have to wonder if major junior will be in Murray’s future instead of Penn State University.

126) Calgary Flames — Calvin Thurkauf (LW, Kelowna, WHL)

Calgary Flames square logoHeight/Weight: 6-1, 203

Playoff Stats: 18 GP-2 G-6 A-8 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 61 GP-18 G-27 A-45 PTS

Central Scouting: 206 NAS

ANALYSIS: The Flames were probably eyeing Kelowna’s other import, Soustal, for this pick after he attended their prospect camp last summer. Instead, Calgary goes off the board for Thurkauf, who had a strong showing as a physical presence in the WHL playoffs. I see Thurkauf getting picked at some point and, if not Calgary, then possibly Philadelphia, which took Tyrell Goulbourne out of Kelowna but out of nowhere a few years ago (third round in 2013).

127) Winnipeg Jets — Oskar Steen (C, Farjestad, Sweden)

Winnipeg Jets square logoHeight/Weight: 5-9, 187

Playoff Stats: 5 GP-0 G-0 A-0 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 17 GP-0 G-6 A-6 PTS

Central Scouting: 18 EUS

ANALYSIS: Steen also played 33 junior games with eight goals and 32 points, so he’s got offensive upside. No known relation to former Jet Thomas Steen. Future Considerations have this Steen at 85th.

128) Arizona Coyotes — Linus Weissbach (LW/RW, Frölunda Jr., Sweden)

Phoenix Coyotes square logoHeight/Weight: 5-9, 154

Playoff Stats: 3 GP-1 G-1 A-2 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 44 GP-17 G-31 A-48 PTS

Central Scouting: 94 EUS

ANALYSIS: A small but skilled offensive catalyst, somewhat similar to Conor Garland, who the Coyotes selected at No. 123 in last year’s draft. Weissbach could be coming to North America next season to play for the USHL’s Tri-City Storm, the reigning Clark Cup champions, which would boost his draft stock.

129) Buffalo Sabres — Griffin Luce (LHD, U.S. National Development Team)

Buffalo Sabres square logoHeight/Weight: 6-3, 214

Playoff Stats: NA

Regular Season Stats: 64 GP-3 G-8 A-11 PTS

Central Scouting: 70 NAS

ANALYSIS: Big, physical defender who also had 82 penalty minutes. Buffalo would be taking a local boy here, with Luce hailing from nearby Williamsville, N.Y. He also happens to be a grandson of Sabres alum Don Luce.

130) Buffalo Sabres (from Montreal) — Connor Bunnaman (C, Kitchener, OHL)

Buffalo Sabres square logoHeight/Weight: 6-0, 183

Playoff Stats: 9 GP-2 G-2 A-4 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 68 GP-16 G-22 A-38 PTS

Central Scouting: 87 NAS

ANALYSIS: Sabes follow up with their best player available, a potential role player for down the road.

131) Colorado Avalanche — Maxime Fortier (RW, Halifax, QMJHL)

Colorado Avalanche square logoHeight/Weight: 5-10, 176

Playoff Stats: NA

Regular Season Stats: 68 GP-31 G-46 A-77 PTS

Central Scouting: 145 NAS

ANALYSIS: High skill but on the small size. That stat-line is tough to ignore. Button has him ranked 70th.

132) New Jersey Devils — Alan Lyszczarczyk (C, Sudbury, OHL)

New Jersey Devils square logoHeight/Weight: 6-0, 181

Playoff Stats: NA

Regular Season Stats: 67 GP-17 G-33 A-50 PTS

Central Scouting: 134 NAS

ANALYSIS: Lots of intrigue here too, a kid who led the Czech under-18 league in scoring two years ago but didn’t dominate during his first season in North America. He was third in scoring on a Sudbury team that finished second last in the league’s overall standings. Lyszczarczyk and Sokolov could light it up together next season, now that they have made the adjustments and know what to expect.

133) Ottawa Senators — Gabriel Sylvestre (RHD, Shawinigan, QMJHL)

Ottawa Senators square logoHeight/Weight: 6-2, 176

Playoff Stats: 21 GP-2 G-2 A-4 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 66 GP-1 G-12 A-13 PTS

Central Scouting: 76 NAS

ANALYSIS: A teammate of Gignac, who I had the Sens taking in the fourth round, Sylvestre has good size and went deep in the playoffs, so scouts have seen a lot of him too. Some team might take Sylvestre as high as the third round.

134) Carolina Hurricanes — Riley Stillman (LHD, Oshawa, OHL)

Carolina Hurricanes square logoHeight/Weight: 6-0, 181

Playoff Stats: 5 GP-0 G-0 A-0 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 62 GP-6 G-15 A-21 PTS

Central Scouting: 66 NAS

ANALYSIS: Feel-good story, the son of Cory who won a Stanley Cup with Carolina in 2006. His dad played forward but Riley is a defender with a decent skill-set.

135) Boston Bruins — Jordy Stallard (C/LW, Calgary, WHL)

Boston Bruins square logoHeight/Weight: 6-2, 187

Playoff Stats: 5 GP-2 G-0 A-2 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 68 GP-21 G-28 A-49 PTS

Central Scouting: 65 NAS

ANALYSIS: The Bruins go best player available for this pair of picks, starting with Stallard who outproduced his draft-eligible teammates, Malenstyn and Carsen Twarynski.

136) Boston Bruins (from Minnesota) — Ben Gleason (LHD, Hamilton, OHL)

Boston Bruins square logoHeight/Weight: 6-0, 165

Playoff Stats: NA

Regular Season Stats: 64 GP-7 G-25 A-32 PTS

Central Scouting: 58 NAS

ANALYSIS: A cousin of Tim, this Gleason isn’t as big but has good hockey sense, which could help him go higher. Future Considerations have him ranked 64th.

137) Detroit Red Wings — David Bernhardt (LHD, Djurgardens Jr., Sweden)

Detroit Red Wings square logoHeight/Weight: 6-3, 203

Playoff Stats: 7 GP-3 G-3 A-6 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 45 GP-10 G-28 A-38 PTS

Central Scouting: 39 EUS

ANALYSIS: The Wings grab another potential steal here, with Bernhardt’s brother Daniel a Rangers draft pick (fourth-rounder in 2015) and a forward for the London Knights. Don’t be surprised if David also decides to take the major-junior route and finds a new home through the CHL import draft on June 28, similar in that sense to 2015 selection Vili Saajijarvi.

138) Nashville Predators — Kyle Maksimovich (LW, Erie, OHL)

Nashville Predators square logoHeight/Weight: 5-9, 170

Playoff Stats: 13 GP-5 G-3 A-8 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 68 GP-27 G-44 A-71 PTS

Central Scouting: 103 NAS

ANALYSIS: A small but sturdy point-producer who flew under the radar on a stacked Erie team despite an impressive stat-line of his own. Maksimovich seems to be the OHL’s version of Matthew Phillips from the WHL. Button has Maksimovich ranked 81st.

139) Philadelphia Flyers — Max Zimmer (LW, Chicago, USHL)

Philadelphia Flyers square logoHeight/Weight: 5-11, 185

Playoff Stats: NA

Regular Season Stats: 55 GP-16 G-21 A-37 PTS

Central Scouting: 77 NAS

ANALYSIS: He’s headed to the University of Wisconsin next season and seems like a prospect on the rise.

140) Vancouver Canucks (from Islanders via Florida) — Connor Hall (LHD, Kitchener, OHL)

Vancouver Canucks 1 square logoHeight/Weight: 6-2, 192

Playoff Stats: 9 GP-1 G-4 A-5 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 39 GP-2 G-7 A-9 PTS

Central Scouting: 100 NAS

ANALYSIS: A combination of Connor McDavid and Taylor Hall? Not quite, but he’s a safe pick at this point in the draft. This Hall isn’t flashy but is effective in his own zone and a physical presence. He’s also a riser in some eyes, with Bob McKenzie ranking Hall at 71st.

141) New York Rangers — Rem Pitlick (C, Muskegon, USHL)

New York Rangers square logoHeight/Weight: 5-9, 194

Playoff Stats: NA

Regular Season Stats: 56 GP-46 G-43 A-89 PTS

Central Scouting: 93 NAS

ANALYSIS: The son of Lance and a cousin of Tyler, this Pitlick tore up the USHL in his sophomore season, winning the scoring title by a whopping 33 points over the runner-up. Pitlick is second-time eligible for the NHL draft but will surely get picked. Button has him ranked 69th overall.

142) Los Angeles Kings — Nolan Stevens (C, Northeastern University, NCAA)

Los Angeles Kings square logoHeight/Weight: 6-2, 185

Playoff Stats: NA

Regular Season Stats: 41 GP-20 G-22 A-42 PTS

Central Scouting: 209 NAS

ANALYSIS: Keeping it in the family here, Stevens’ father, John, is L.A.’s associate coach. The kid took a big step as a sophomore and could have a future with the Kings, or whoever drafts him. Button is a believer, ranking Stevens at 66th.

143) Chicago Blackhawks — Hudson Elynuik (LW, Spokane, WHL)

Chicago Blackhawks square logoHeight/Weight: 6-5, 201

Playoff Stats: 6 GP-3 G-0 A-3 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 56 GP-19 G-25 A-44 PTS

Central Scouting: 68 NAS

ANALYSIS: He’s a Bryan Bickell type who really ramped it up in his draft year. Elynuik has the size and the rest of his skill-set is growing too. It doesn’t hurt that he’s the son of Pat, a former winger for the old Jets.

144) Chicago Blackhawks (from Florida) — Vojtech Budik (LHD, Prince Albert, WHL)

Chicago Blackhawks square logoHeight/Weight: 6-1, 185

Playoff Stats: 5 GP-1 G-0 A-1 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 70 GP-3 G-13 A-16 PTS

Central Scouting: 90 NAS

ANALYSIS: Hawks go with their best available defenceman, with Budik a bit of a faller at this spot.

145) Washington Capitals (from Anaheim via Toronto) — Otto Koivula (LW, Ilves Jr., Finland)

Washington Capitals square logoHeight/Weight: 6-4, 220

Playoff Stats: 7 GP-5 G-7 A-12 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 49 GP-26 G-32 A-58 PTS

Central Scouting: 28 EUS

ANALYSIS: It’ll be interesting to see where Koivula goes in the draft and what he’s capable of in the pro ranks if he cracks Ilves senior team next season. Koivula is a man-child and dominated junior thanks to his size.

146) Dallas Stars — Reid Gardiner (RW, Prince Albert, WHL)

Dallas Stars square logoHeight/Weight: 5-11, 185

Playoff Stats: 5 GP-3 G-2 A-5 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 71 GP-43 G-49 A-92 PTS

Central Scouting: 173 NAS

ANALYSIS: Another over-age prospect (already 20) who probably should have been picked around this spot last year. Gardiner added to his body of work and shouldn’t get passed over again.

147) Washington Capitals — Ivan Kosorenkov (RW, Russian U18 Team)

Washington Capitals square logoHeight/Weight: 6-0, 181

Playoff Stats: 3 GP-1 G-0 A-1 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 22 GP-13 G-7 A-20 PTS

Central Scouting: 70 EUS

ANALYSIS: Another high-skill Russian who is fun to watch. Washington will enjoy snagging some Russian talent right in front of Tampa in this year’s draft.

148) Tampa Bay Lightning — Anthony Salinitri (C, Sarnia, OHL)

Tampa Bay Lightning square logoHeight/Weight: 5-11, 170

Playoff Stats: 7 GP-2 G-0 A-2 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 62 GP-17 G-13 A-30 PTS

Central Scouting: 84 NAS

ANALYSIS: Stats probably don’t do his skill-set justice, but Salinitri could break out in his draft plus one season. Tampa tends to pluck these kind of prospects in the middle rounds.

149) Edmonton Oilers (from St. Louis) — Brennan Menell (RHD, Vancouver, WHL)

Edmonton Oilers square logoHeight/Weight: 5-10, 187

Playoff Stats: NA

Regular Season Stats: 69 GP-7 G-46 A-53 PTS

Central Scouting: NA

ANALYSIS: Quite similar to Quenneville, so the thinking is if either of them make it to the big league, the Oilers could have their future power-play quarterback. Menell was effective in that role, enjoying a breakout year on a bad team.

150) San Jose Sharks — Matthew Cairns (LHD, Georgetown, OJHL)

San Jose Sharks square logoHeight/Weight: 6-2, 190

Playoff Stats: 22 GP-3 G-16 A-19 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 46 GP-9 G-24 A-33 PTS

Central Scouting: 86 NAS

ANALYSIS: A good-sized kid who posted a nice stat-line in Junior A and was a standout at the combine. Cairns is committed to Cornell but not until 2017-18.

151) Pittsburgh Penguins — Mathias From (RW/LW, Rogle Jr., Sweden)

Pittsburgh Penguins square logoHeight/Weight: 6-1, 187

Playoff Stats: 7 GP-2 G-2 A-4 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 36 GP-6 G-15 A-21 PTS

Central Scouting: 26 EUS

ANALYSIS: Another Dane like Daniel Sprong, From also played 16 pro games with Rogle in the SHL, recording two goals and four points.

Sixth Round

152) Toronto Maple Leafs — Ondrej Kachyna (LHD, Hamilton, OHL)

Toronto Maple Leafs square logoHeight/Weight: 6-3, 192

Playoff Stats: NA

Regular Season Stats: 52 GP-2 G-11 A-13 PTS

Central Scouting: 101 NAS

ANALYSIS: The Leafs take a long-shot prospect here but a kid who improved throughout his first season in North America. Good size and upside.

153) Edmonton Oilers — Veini Vehvilainen (G, YJP, Finland)

Edmonton Oilers square logoHeight/Weight: 6-1, 183

Playoff Stats: 3 GP-3.70 GAA-.796 Save%

Regular Season Stats: 28 GP-2.04 GAA-.925 Save%

Central Scouting: 3 EUG

ANALYSIS: Taking Vehvilainen here, in addition to Hart, could turn a questionable position into an organizational strength going forward. Vehvilainen was strangely passed over in last year’s draft and there are some concerns about his play under pressure after losing his starting job on Finland’s gold medal-winning team at the world juniors. His playoff numbers were bad too, but Vehvilainen posted very impressive stats in a professional league. The Oilers signed Eetu Laurikainen as a goalie out of that league, so you can assume they would have been keeping close tabs on Vehvilainen as well.

154) Vancouver Canucks — Daniil Miromanov (RW, Acadie-Bathurst, QMJHL)

Vancouver Canucks 1 square logoHeight/Weight: 6-2, 174

Playoff Stats: 5 GP-6 G-0 A-6 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 64 GP-22 G-20 A-42 PTS

Central Scouting: 105 NAS

ANALYSIS: The Canucks took Dmitri Zhukenov in the fourth round last year as a Russian bound for the QMJHL and that pick looks promising a year later. Miromanov has been in Canada for a while, but he had the hot hand in this year’s playoffs and has been rising up the rankings as a result.

155) Columbus Blue Jackets — William Lockwood (RW, U.S. National Development Team)

Columbus Blue Jackets 2 square logoHeight/Weight: 5-10, 172

Playoff Stats: NA

Regular Season Stats: 59 GP-13 G-20 A-33 PTS

Central Scouting: 108 NAS

ANALYSIS: His last name sort of rhymes with Kole Sherwood, who was signed after last year’s draft, but Lockwood might have even more upside between the two. Lockwood attended the combine and Bob McKenzie has him ranked 74th, so perhaps Columbus could take him at No. 65 and hope Lucas Carlsson is still available here instead.

156) Calgary Flames — Vladimir Bobylev (LW, Victoria, WHL)

Calgary Flames square logoHeight/Weight: 6-2, 205

Playoff Stats: 5 GP-0 G-7 A-7 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 72 GP-28 G-39 A-67 PTS

Central Scouting: 203 NAS

ANALYSIS: He made huge strides during his second season in North America after managing just three goals and nine points in 52 games the previous season with Vancouver. Expect Bobylev to be on Calgary’s radar with the Flames’ ties to Victoria coach Dave Lowry.

157) Winnipeg Jets — Oleg Sosunov (LHD, Loko Yaroslavl Jr. B, Russia)

Winnipeg Jets square logoHeight/Weight: 6-8, 243

Playoff Stats: 12 GP-0 G-2 A-2 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 39 GP-4 G-8 A-12 PTS

Central Scouting: 25 EUS

ANALYSIS: This monster might be the biggest player in the draft — possibly taller than Tyler Myers and thicker than Dustin Byfuglien. Sosunov is an intriguing project for whoever drafts him.

158) Arizona Coyotes — Sebastian Aho (LHD, Skelleftea, Sweden)

Phoenix Coyotes square logoHeight/Weight: 5-10, 176

Playoff Stats: 16 GP-3 G-4 A-7 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 39 GP-3 G-13 A-16 PTS

Central Scouting: 48 EUS

ANALYSIS: Only one Sebastian Aho got drafted last year, the Finnish forward, but expect Sweden’s power-play quarterback from the world juniors to get picked this year despite already being 20 years old. This Aho is another small Swede who is big on skill like Weissbach.

159) Buffalo Sabres — Cole Candella (LHD, Hamilton, OHL)

Buffalo Sabres square logoHeight/Weight: 6-1, 185

Playoff Stats: NA

Regular Season Stats: 37 GP-4 G-16 A-20 PTS

Central Scouting: 85 NAS

ANALYSIS: A solid but not flashy defender. That Hamilton team should be higher in the standings next season, so Candella could take a step forward too.

160) Montreal Canadiens — Keaton Middleton (LHD, Saginaw, OHL)

Montreal Canadiens square logoHeight/Weight: 6-6, 235 (CO)

Playoff Stats: 4 GP-0 G-1 A-1 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 66 GP-1 G-6 A-7 PTS

Central Scouting: 71 NAS

ANALYSIS: The Habs could have twin towers with Falkovsky and Middleton, who also had 66 penalty minutes this season. Size on the back end will no longer be a concern for Montreal.

161) Colorado Avalanche — Matthew Boucher (LW, Quebec, QMJHL)

Colorado Avalanche square logoHeight/Weight: 5-8, 172

Playoff Stats: 4 GP-0 G-1 A-1 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 59 GP-30 G-30 A-60 PTS

Central Scouting: NA

ANALYSIS: The son of Philippe, Matthew also had 93 penalty minutes while playing for his father’s team. It was a breakout year for Boucher, having only produced eight goals and 16 points in 63 games with Drummondville the previous season.

162) New Jersey Devils — Ross Colton (LW, Cedar Rapids, USHL)

New Jersey Devils square logoHeight/Weight: 6-0, 190

Playoff Stats: 5 GP-1 G-0 A-1 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 55 GP-35 G-31 A-66 PTS

Central Scouting: 89 NAS

ANALYSIS: New Jersey native who was tied for second in USHL scoring behind Pitlick. There is some upside to this pick beyond the fact Colton’s a local product. Another late bloomer (19).

163) Ottawa Senators — Pius Suter (C/LW, ZSC Lions, Switzerland)

Ottawa Senators square logoHeight/Weight: 5-11, 176

Playoff Stats: 4 GP-1 G-0 A-1 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 45 GP-14 G-10 A-24 PTS

Central Scouting: 40 EUS

ANALYSIS: A teammate of top pick Auston Matthews, Suter is already 20 years old after previously playing two seasons in the OHL with Guelph. Marc Crawford coached Suter this past season, so a reunion in Ottawa’s organization would seem like a natural fit.

164) Carolina Hurricanes — Hayden Verbeek (C, Sault Ste. Marie, OHL)

Carolina Hurricanes square logoHeight/Weight: 5-10, 172

Playoff Stats: 9 GP-1 G-3 A-4 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 63 GP-14 G-20 A-34 PTS

Central Scouting: 125 NAS

ANALYSIS: Nephew of Pat, this Verbeek should only get better next season.

165) Boston Bruins — Josh Mahura (LHD, Red Deer, WHL)

Boston Bruins square logoHeight/Weight: 6-0, 179

Playoff Stats: 17 GP-2 G-2 A-4 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 2 GP-0 G-1 A-1 PTS

Central Scouting: NA

ANALYSIS: Scouts were paying close attention to Mahura at the Memorial Cup after only getting a small sample size during the season. The Bruins might have watched him most in keeping tabs on 2015 first-rounder Jake DeBrusk after he was traded to Red Deer. Boston may need to nab Mahura much sooner, though, considering Bob McKenzie ranked him 69th and Future Considerations had him at 82nd.

166) Calgary Flames (from Minnesota) — Kristian Reichel (C, Litvinov, Czech Republic)

Calgary Flames square logoHeight/Weight: 6-0, 168

Playoff Stats: 5 GP-0 G-0 A-0 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 15 GP-3 G-1 A-4 PTS

Central Scouting: 119 EUS

ANALYSIS: The son of Robert, the former Flame, this Reichel also played 30 junior games with 19 goals and 30 points. He seems to be more of a scorer than a playmaker.

167) Detroit Red Wings — Daniel Marmenlind (G, Orebro Jr., Sweden)

Detroit Red Wings square logoHeight/Weight: 6-1, 192

Playoff Stats: NA

Regular Season Stats: 33 GP-2.93 GAA-.920 Save%

Central Scouting: 2 EUG

ANALYSIS: The Wings got the top-ranked European goalie, Gustavsson, in the second round and select another Swedish netminder, the second-ranked Marmenlind, who is lingering here. One or both of them could be battling Petr Mrazek for Detroit’s starting job in a few years.

168) Nashville Predators — Leevi Laakso (G, Sport Jr., Finland)

Nashville Predators square logoHeight/Weight: 6-0, 168

Playoff Stats: NA

Regular Season Stats: 38 GP-2.71 GAA-.910 Save%

Central Scouting: 11 EUG

ANALYSIS: The Preds grab another Finnish goalie to go with Pekka Rinne and Juuse Saros.

169) Philadelphia Flyers — Jeff De Wit (C, Red Deer, WHL)

Philadelphia Flyers square logoHeight/Weight: 6-2, 174

Playoff Stats: 17 GP-3 G-4 A-7 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 70 GP-7 G-15 A-22 PTS

Central Scouting: 80 NAS

ANALYSIS: Good size and got some invaluable experience on the Memorial Cup host team. De Wit got pushed down the depth chart when Red Deer acquired some ringers but should be a go-to guy for the Rebels next season.

170) New York Islanders — Garrett Pilon (C, Kamloops, WHL)

New York Islanders square logoHeight/Weight: 5-10, 174

Playoff Stats: 7 GP-2 G-1 A-3 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 71 GP-15 G-32 A-47 PTS

Central Scouting: 109 NAS

ANALYSIS: The son of Rich, a former Islanders defenceman, this Pilon was one of the WHL’s better rookies and always brought his best against Kelowna, with six goals and 12 points in eight regular-season meetings. Ironically, the Islanders also drafted a Pilon in 2015, taking defenceman Ryan in the fifth round (147th), but he strangely opted not to report to eventual WHL champion Brandon’s training camp for personal reasons and sat out the entire junior season. Garrett is a distant cousin of Ryan but has a high passion for the sport, so there should be no worries of that happening with him.

171) New York Rangers — Collin Adams (LW, Muskegon, USHL)

New York Rangers square logoHeight/Weight: 5-9, 179

Playoff Stats: NA

Regular Season Stats: 59 GP-27 G-34 A-61 PTS

Central Scouting: NA

ANALYSIS: The Rangers go back to Muskegon to grab Pitlick’s running mate, another undersized forward who was second among rookie scoring leaders in the USHL behind only Cam Morrison. Adams is committed to the University of North Dakota for next season.

172) Philadelphia Flyers (from Los Angeles) — Travis Barron (LW, Ottawa, OHL)

Philadelphia Flyers square logoHeight/Weight: 6-1, 187

Playoff Stats: 5 GP-2 G-4 A-6 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 60 GP-13 G-24 A-37 PTS

Central Scouting: 94 NAS

ANALYSIS: A cousin of Cole Cassels, Barron could trend upward next season coming off a strong playoff performance.

173) Chicago Blackhawks — Tanner Laczynski (C, Chicago-Lincoln, USHL)

Chicago Blackhawks square logoHeight/Weight: 6-0, 174

Playoff Stats: 4 GP-1 G-2 A-3 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 52 GP-24 G-39 A-63 PTS

Central Scouting: 99 NAS

ANALYSIS: He was fourth in USHL scoring and is committed to Ohio State University for next season. Laczynski could be a nice prospect in a couple years’ time, and he grew up an hour away from Chicago in Shorewood, Illinois.

174) Florida Panthers — Joona Koppanen (C, Ilves Jr. Finland)

Florida Panthers square logoHeight/Weight: 6-5, 194

Playoff Stats: NA

Regular Season Stats: 40 GP-9 G-17 A-26 PTS

Central Scouting: 27 EUS

ANALYSIS: He’s got the size and the skills seem to be coming along. With it being such a strong year for Finnish prospects, Koppanen could go higher too.

175) Florida Panthers (from Anaheim) — Kevin Klima (C, Moncton, QMJHL)

Florida Panthers square logoHeight/Weight: 5-9, 172

Playoff Stats: 12 GP-2 G-2 A-4 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 52 GP-23 G-27 A-50 PTS

Central Scouting: 210 NAS

ANALYSIS: Time for some twins, the sons of Petr, the former Oiler. These Klimas are undersized but they play with an edge as evidenced by Kevin’s 81 penalty minutes. His brother and linemate Kelly is unranked and may not get drafted, but it’s presumed they will come as a package deal much like the Jones twins, Kellen and Connor, who were in Edmonton’s organization. Kelly had fewer penalty minutes (62) but actually outproduced Kevin in the playoffs with three goals and six points.

176) Dallas Stars — Josh Dickinson (C, Georgetown, OJHL)

Dallas Stars square logoHeight/Weight: 6-2, 181

Playoff Stats: 17 GP-7 G-5 A-12 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 47 GP-23 G-30 A-53 PTS

Central Scouting: 138 NAS

ANALYSIS: The younger brother of Jason Dickinson, who the Stars drafted in the first round in 2013. Josh isn’t on the same level, but he’s off to Clarkson University to continue his development.

177) Washington Capitals — Egor Babenko (LW, Lethbridge, WHL)

Washington Capitals square logoHeight/Weight: 5-9, 157

Playoff Stats: 5 GP-0 G-3 A-3 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 67 GP-29 G-40 A-69 PTS

Central Scouting: 106 NAS

ANALYSIS: He took the WHL by storm early on, surprising individually while Lethbridge was surprising as a team. A few inches taller and Babenko might be going a few rounds earlier.

178) Tampa Bay Lightning — Mitch Eliot (RHD, Muskegon, USHL)

Tampa Bay Lightning square logoHeight/Weight: 6-0, 190

Playoff Stats: NA

Regular Season Stats: 55 GP-5 G-8 A-13 PTS

Central Scouting: 132 NAS

ANALYSIS: Another hard-nosed defender who had 92 penalty minutes. A nice complement to the left-handed Greenway from a few rounds earlier.

179) Toronto Maple Leafs (from St. Louis) — Joseph Raaymakers (G, Sault Ste. Marie, OHL)

Toronto Maple Leafs square logoHeight/Weight: 6-1, 181

Playoff Stats: NA

Regular Season Stats: 28 GP-3.61 GAA-.891 Save%

Central Scouting: 9 NAG

ANALYSIS: If the Leafs take a second goalie, it’ll probably be another one from Ontario. If not Raaymakers, it could be Helvig or Colton Point, who backstopped Carleton Place to the RBC Cup tournament. Raaymakers played behind Rangers prospect Brandon Halverson, who was Team USA’s other goalie at this year’s world juniors.

180) San Jose Sharks — Carsen Twarynski (LW, Calgary, WHL)

San Jose Sharks square logoHeight/Weight: 6-2, 201

Playoff Stats: 5 GP-0 G-1 A-1 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 67 GP-20 G-25 A-45 PTS

Central Scouting: 64 NAS

ANALYSIS: He didn’t do much in the playoffs, but Twarynski had a solid draft year as a whole. He did enough to get drafted and has a good frame to build on.

181) Pittsburgh Penguins — Brogan O’Brien (LW, Prince George, WHL)

Pittsburgh Penguins square logoHeight/Weight: 6-2, 190

Playoff Stats: 4 GP-0 G-1 A-1 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 71 GP-18 G-38 A-56 PTS

ANALYSIS: A good-sized winger who had a good rookie season in the WHL after making the jump from Junior A (BCHL).

Seventh Round

182) Toronto Maple Leafs — Yegor Zaitsev (LHD, HK MVD Balashikha Jr., Russia)

Toronto Maple Leafs square logoHeight/Weight: 6-0, 170

Playoff Stats: 8 GP-0 G-0 A-0 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 27 GP-1 G-6 A-7 PTS

Central Scouting: 34 EUS

ANALYSIS: Undetermined whether he’s related to Nikita Zaitsev, the talented 24-year-old defenceman that Toronto signed as a free agent this spring. Some scouts like the upside of this Zaitsev too.

183) Edmonton Oilers — Manuel Wiederer (RW, Moncton, QMJHL)

Edmonton Oilers square logoHeight/Weight: 6-0, 174

Playoff Stats: 17 GP-12 G-4 A-16 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 54 GP-29 G-35 A-64 PTS

Central Scouting: NA

ANALYSIS: A German friend for Leon Draisaitl, Wiederer was impressive during his first season in North America as a 19-year-old. The Oilers have drafted well out of Germany in years past, also picking Tobias Rieder. Edmonton could also opt for a fourth right-handed defenceman, with a few intriguing options available here, including a couple over-age college prospects. Quinnipiac’s Chase Priskie might top that list as a freshman who exceeded expectations to get on the draft radar. Priskie has some similarities to Jordan Oesterle, who made a good impression on Edmonton’s coaching staff this past season. Michigan State’s Zach Osburn possesses a booming shot but is also on the small side at 5-11, 185. Osborn is more of a Brad Hunt type. It’s unlikely that Edmonton would select three righties under six-feet tall, and Priskie isn’t much bigger either (6-0, 190). There’s also the chance of a sentimental pick in Blake Coffey — yes, the son of Paul and a righty unlike his dad. However, this Coffey had a rough draft year playing Junior A in Ontario, so he’ll probably be passed over and perhaps get an invite to Edmonton’s prospect development camp.

184) Vancouver Canucks — Jack Walker (LW, Victoria, WHL)

Vancouver Canucks 1 square logoHeight/Weight: 5-11, 179

Playoff Stats: 13 GP-8 G-8 A-16 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 72 GP-36 G-48 A-84 PTS

Central Scouting: NA

ANALYSIS: He’s a real sleeper, but Walker’s strong playoff performance could get him drafted quite a bit higher. Lowry felt Walker was the faster player in the WHL with the puck on his stick. Button is aware of Walker, ranking him 76th overall.

185) Columbus Blue Jackets — Antti Kalapudas (LW/C, Karpat/KalPa, Finland)

Columbus Blue Jackets 2 square logoHeight/Weight: 6-0, 179

Playoff Stats: 3 GP-0 G-0 A-0 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 31 GP-3 G-3 A-6 PTS

Central Scouting: 59 EUS

ANALYSIS: An over-ager who turns 20 in July but was a world-junior standout with three goals and four points in seven games. Kalapudas had a pesky presence in that tournament similar to Leo Komarov or even Esa Tikkanen.

186) Calgary Flames — Brandon Hagel (LW, Red Deer, WHL)

Calgary Flames square logoHeight/Weight: 6-0, 165

Playoff Stats: 17 GP-1 G-9 A-10 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 72 GP-13 G-34 A-47 PTS

Central Scouting: 104 NAS

ANALYSIS: Another guy who got the extra Memorial Cup exposure, which should be enough to get him drafted in the late stages.

187) Winnipeg Jets — Reid Duke (C/RW, Brandon, WHL)

Winnipeg Jets square logoHeight/Weight: 6-0, 194

Playoff Stats: 21 GP-8 G-16 A-24 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 68 GP-33 G-29 A-62 PTS

Central Scouting: NA

ANALYSIS: Teammate of Clague’s on the only WHL club in Manitoba, Duke is re-entering the draft after not getting signed by Minnesota on June 1.

188) Arizona Coyotes — Todd Burgess (C/RW, Fairbanks, NAHL)

Phoenix Coyotes square logoHeight/Weight: 6-2, 179

Playoff Stats: 12 GP-5 G-9 A-14 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 60 GP-38 G-57 A-95 PTS

Central Scouting: 185 NAS

ANALYSIS: He’s 20 years old, but he’s also an Arizona product who came up through the Phoenix Jr. Coyotes program.

189) Buffalo Sabres — Ondrej Najman (C, Dukla Jihlava Jr., Czech Republic)

Buffalo Sabres square logoHeight/Weight: 6-1, 187

Playoff Stats: 3 GP-1 G-1 A-2 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 38 GP-18 G-26 A-44 PTS

Central Scouting: 30 EUS

ANALYSIS: Najman is one of the more intriguing Czech prospects in this year’s draft, and it would be nice to see him cross the pond to play major junior next season. I originally had Jaedon Descheneau going here — Sam Reinhart’s linemate from junior who went unsigned by St. Louis as a fifth-round pick in 2014 — but it’s been brought to my attention that he’s a free agent rather than re-entering the draft. The Sabres signed Jack Eichel’s college linemate, Evan Rodrigues, so it wouldn’t be shocking if Reinhart’s former wingman wound up in Buffalo’s organization this offseason too.

190) Buffalo Sabres (from Montreal) — Kenny Johnson (LHD, Shattuck St. Mary’s Midget Prep)

Buffalo Sabres square logoHeight/Weight: 6-3, 214

Playoff Stats: NA

Regular Season Stats: 44 GP-7 G-23 A-30 PTS

Central Scouting: 117 NAS

ANALYSIS: The younger brother of Jack Johnson and following in his footsteps by heading to the University of Michigan next season. Kenny had 66 penalty minutes and has the size to be a physical presence.

191) Colorado Avalanche — Nathan Noel (C, Saint John, QMJHL)

Colorado Avalanche square logoHeight/Weight: 6-0, 179

Playoff Stats: 16 GP-3 G-10 A-13 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 61 GP-21 G-36 A-57 PTS

Central Scouting: 171 NAS

ANALYSIS: One of the younger second-time eligibles, Noel turns 19 the week of the draft. He’s not a lock to be picked, but Colorado seems like a team with potential interest.

192) New Jersey Devils — Graham McPhee (LW, U.S. National Development Team)

New Jersey Devils square logoHeight/Weight: 5-11, 172

Playoff Stats: NA

Regular Season Stats: 58 GP-10 G-8 A-18 PTS

Central Scouting: 110 NAS

ANALYSIS: The son of George, the former Washington GM, this McPhee has shown good attention to detail in playing a simple but effective game.

193) New York Islanders (from Ottawa) —  Ondrej Vala (LHD, Kamloops, WHL)

New York Islanders square logoHeight/Weight: 6-4, 216

Playoff Stats: 7 GP-0 G-1 A-1 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 72 GP-4 G-17 A-21 PTS

Central Scouting: 102 NAS

ANALYSIS: Pilon’s teammate, Vala made steady improvement throughout the season and his size will be attractive to NHL scouts.

194) Vancouver Canucks (from Carolina) — Maxim Lazarev (LW/RW, Cape Breton, QMJHL)

Vancouver Canucks 1 square logoHeight/Weight: 5-10, 170

Playoff Stats: 11 GP-5 G-10 A-15 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 52 GP-30 G-45 A-75 PTS

Central Scouting: NA

ANALYSIS: Assuming the Canucks took Dubois in the first round, they might take a look at his linemate in the last round. Already 20 years old, Lazarev was a world-junior standout for Russia.

195) Boston Bruins — Casey Fitzgerald (RHD, Boston College, NCAA)

Boston Bruins square logoHeight/Weight: 5-11, 185

Playoff Stats: NA

Regular Season Stats: 39 GP-4 G-23 A-27 PTS

Central Scouting: 156 NAS

ANALYSIS: A son of Tom, whose brother Ryan is already a Bruins prospect (fourth-rounder in 2013). This family has some serious bloodlines, with the Fitzgeralds also being cousins with the Tkachuks (Matthew and Keith) and the Hayes (Kevin and Jimmy). Casey had a strong freshman year at Boston College and could have a future in the game.

196) Minnesota Wild — Michael Graham (F, Fargo, USHL)

Minnesota Wild square logoHeight/Weight: 6-2, 185

Playoff Stats: NA

Regular Season Stats: 14 GP-2 G-4 A-6 PTS

Central Scouting: 128 NAS

ANALYSIS: Minnesota high-schooler who made the jump to junior. Prior to playing for Fargo, Graham put up 14 goals and 43 points in 25 regular-season games, plus two goals and six points in three playoff games for Eden Prairie High.

197) Detroit Red Wings — Tarmo Reunanen (LHD, TPS Jr., Finland)

Detroit Red Wings square logoHeight/Weight: 5-11, 163

Playoff Stats: 5 GP-0 G-3 A-3 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 11 GP-2 G-4 A-6 PTS

Central Scouting: 53 EUS

ANALYSIS: This could be yet another potential steal for Detroit, a trend that has played out over the years. Reunanen didn’t play a ton of hockey in his draft year, but he’s got a lot of offensive upside. Button still has Reunanen ranked 79th.

198) Nashville Predators — Jesper Mattila (LHD, Ilves Jr., Finland)

Nashville Predators square logoHeight/Weight: 5-10, 170

Playoff Stats: 7 GP-0 G-4 A-4 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 47 GP-4 G-33 A-37 PTS

Central Scouting: 83 EUS

ANALYSIS: An undersized, left-handed defenceman but Nashville may consider this sleeper who is bound for Boston College next season. Somewhat similar to Nashville’s free-agent signing Kristian Nakyva.

199) Philadelphia Flyers — Keenan Suthers (LW, U.S. National Development Team)

Philadelphia Flyers square logoHeight/Weight: 6-7, 220

Playoff Stats: NA

Regular Season Stats: 51 GP-4 G-7 A-11 PTS

Central Scouting: 119 NAS

ANALYSIS: He’s huge but raw, though Suthers will have plenty of time to develop at Western Michigan University under former NHL coach Andy Murray starting next season.

200) New York Islanders — Joseph Masonius (LHD, University of Connecticut, NCAA)

New York Islanders square logoHeight/Weight: 6-0, 181

Playoff Stats: NA

Regular Season Stats: 34 GP-6 G-15 A-21 PTS

Central Scouting: 118 NAS

ANALYSIS: He had a real good freshman year aside from his minus-18 rating. Masonius also had 40 penalty minutes but showed quality potential similar to Priskie and Osburn. Any of those three could be selected in the final round.

201) New York Rangers — Jakob Stukel (LW, Vancouver/Calgary, WHL)

New York Rangers square logoHeight/Weight: 6-0, 185

Playoff Stats: 5 GP-2 G-1 A-3 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 69 GP-36 G-24 A-60 PTS

Central Scouting: 82 NAS

ANALYSIS: Benefitted from the change of scenery to Calgary and made the scouts take notice in the second half of the season. Calgary was a heavily-scouted team and Stukel stood out on a lot of nights. If the Rangers wanted another little guy, Max Gerlach scored 30 goals for Medicine Hat as a WHL rookie, but he’s also 5-9, 165.

202) Los Angeles Kings — Jake Ryczek (RHD, Sioux City-Waterloo, USHL)

Los Angeles Kings square logoHeight/Weight: 5-10, 165

Playoff Stats: 9 GP-0 G-4 A-4 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 47 GP-7 G-27 A-34 PTS

Central Scouting: 114 NAS

ANALYSIS: On the small side but has good skills as a puck-mover.

203) Chicago Blackhawks — Artur Lauta (RW, Avangard Omsk, KHL)

Chicago Blackhawks square logoHeight/Weight: 6-0, 190

Playoff Stats: 11 GP-2 G-1 A-3 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 27 GP-4 G-0 A-4 PTS

Central Scouting: 43 EUS

ANALYSIS: Impressive at the world juniors and in the CHL Super Series but already 20 years old. There are still a lot of good goaltending prospects left according to this mock and maybe Chicago would take one of the Tri-City kids — be it Jake Kielly, who backstopped the USHL Storm to a playoff championship, or Evan Sarthou, who is developing with with the WHL Americans, known as a goalie factory for producing the likes of Carey Price, Chet Pickard and Eric Comrie. Sarthou was also very good for Team USA at the U18s with 1.15 goals-against average and .927 save percentage in five appearances. Colton Point and Jeremy Helvig out of Ontario are quality netminders too, but I just couldn’t resist another Russian forward to the Hawks.

204) Minnesota Wild (from Florida) — Brinson Pasichnuk (LHD, Bonnyville, AJHL)

Minnesota Wild square logoHeight/Weight: 6-0, 185

Playoff Stats: 4 GP-1 G-2 A-3 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 52 GP-20 G-45 A-65 PTS

Central Scouting: 115 NAS

ANALYSIS: This prospect also had 161 penalty minutes and comes from the same junior team that produced Justin Fontaine and Mark Letestu.

205) Anaheim Ducks — Lukas Doudera (LHD, HC Trinec, Czech Republic)

Anaheim Ducks square logoHeight/Weight: 5-11, 165

Playoff Stats: 12 GP-1 G-7 A-8 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 30 GP-0 G-2 A-2 PTS (Pro)

Central Scouting: 127 EUS

ANALYSIS: Every team will be trying for steals at this point and Doudera could be another. He has more offensive potential than his stats indicate.

206) Tampa Bay Lightning (from Dallas via Edmonton) — Nick Pastujov (LW, U.S. National Development Team)

Tampa Bay Lightning square logoHeight/Weight: 6-0, 196

Playoff Stats: NA

Regular Season Stats: 60 GP-13 G-8 A-21 PTS

Central Scouting: 112 NAS

ANALYSIS: He had 68 penalty minutes over the course of the season, then produced three goals and four points in seven games at the U18s.

207) Washington Capitals — Vladislav Sukhachyov (G, Russian U18 Team)

Washington Capitals square logoHeight/Weight: 5-10, 181

Playoff Stats: 3 GP-4.04 GAA-.871 Save%

Regular Season Stats: 15 GP-1.89 GAA-.930 Save%

Central Scouting: NA

ANALYSIS: Lost his starter’s job to Berdin, but Sukhachyov could be a prime pick for the Capitals, who took fellow Russian goalie Ilya Samsonov in the first round last year.

208) Tampa Bay Lightning — Samuel Laberge (LW/RW, Rimouski, QMJHL)

Tampa Bay Lightning square logoHeight/Weight: 6-2, 205

Playoff Stats: 6 GP-1 G-1 A-2 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 63 GP-21 G-27 A-48 PTS

Central Scouting: 158 NAS

ANALYSIS: The Lightning start and finish their draft with a Laberge, though Samuel doesn’t appear to be related to first-rounder Pascal. This Laberge plays with more bite (103 penalty minutes).

209) St. Louis Blues — Tyler Soy (C, Victoria, WHL)

St. Louis Blues square logoHeight/Weight: 6-0, 172

Playoff Stats: 13 GP-7 G-5 A-12 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 72 GP-46 G-39 A-85 PTS

Central Scouting: 150 NAS

ANALYSIS: He’s an over-ager that probably should have been picked last year. Soy is another prospect who plays a game somewhat similar to Fabbri or Schwartz, albeit as a centre in junior. Those 46 goals will get Soy selected this time around.

210) San Jose Sharks — Dawson Davidson (LHD, Kamloops, WHL)

San Jose Sharks square logoHeight/Weight: 5-10, 176

Playoff Stats: 7 GP-1 G-1 A-2 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 59 GP-6 G-33 A-39 PTS

Central Scouting: NA

ANALYSIS: He’s undersized but an offensive catalyst that plays a pretty complete game and doesn’t shy away from the rough stuff.

211) St. Louis Blues (from Pittsburgh) — Jake Kryski (LW, Kamloops, WHL)

St. Louis Blues square logoHeight/Weight: 5-11, 174

Playoff Stats: 7 GP-0 G-1 A-1 PTS

Regular Season Stats: 67 GP-12 G-27 A-39 PTS

Central Scouting: NA

ANALYSIS: Flying under the radar, he could be a kid who gets passed over this year and then really breaks out. In other words, Kryski could be this year’s Soy or Gardiner.
