5th Annual NHL Mock Draft: 2016, Team Results

Wondering how your favourite team made out in my fifth annual mock draft? Here’s a recap with team-by-team results based on draft order. Feel free to weigh in on the winners and losers in the comments below.

Toronto Maple Leafs square logo

Toronto Maple Leafs

1) Auston Matthews (C, ZSC Lions, Switzerland)

30) Samuel Girard (LHD, Shawinigan, QMJHL)

31) Sean Day (LHD, Mississauga, OHL)

57) Cliff Pu (RW, London, OHL)

62) Tyler Parsons (G, London, OHL)

72) Tim Gettinger (LW, Sault Ste. Marie, OHL)

92) Vladimir Kuznetsov (LW, Acadie-Bathurst, QMJHL)

101) Andrei Svetlakov (C, CSKA, KHL)

122) Nicolas Mattinen (RHD, London, OHL)

152) Ondrej Kachyna (LHD, Hamilton, OHL)

179) Joseph Raaymakers (G, Sault Ste. Marie, OHL)

182) Yegor Zaitsev (LHD, HK MVD Balashikha Jr., Russia)

TOTAL: 12 (2 C, 4LHD, 1 RW, 2 G, 2 LW, 1 RHD)

ANALYSIS: What a haul this would be. Top to bottom, there is a lot to like here for the Leafs. Matthews is the No. 1 centre that Toronto has been missing for oh-so-long. Girard is a top-notch puckmover and Day a potential workhorse if and when he decides to work. That pick is the headscratcher, but Toronto’s brass would be very familiar with the player through Mark Hunter and Kyle Dubas’ ties to the OHL. If they believe in Day’s ability, then he could be a steal to start the second round even though many have him fading into the fourth round. Day is essentially this year’s Oliver Kylington, a different-style player but a former top prospect in freefall mode ahead of the draft. Pu, Parsons and Gettinger would be good value picks in those spots and are again well-known commodities to Hunter and Dubas. The last six picks are riskier, but of the high-reward variety for the most part. Toronto can and likely will take some chances as the draft gets deeper.

Winnipeg Jets square logo

Winnipeg Jets

2) Patrik Laine (LW, Tappara, Finland)

22) Kale Clague (LHD, Brandon, WHL)

36) Cam Morrison (LW, Youngstown, USHL)

97) Brayden Burke (C/LW, Lethbridge, WHL)

127) Oskar Steen (C, Farjestad, Sweden)

157) Oleg Sosunov (LHD, Loko Yaroslavl Jr. B, Russia)

187) Reid Duke (C/RW, Brandon, WHL)

TOTAL: 7 (2 LW, 2 LHD, 3 C)

ANALYSIS: The Jets have been drafting well lately — especially in 2015 — and that trend continues here. Laine is a no-brainer at No. 2, Clague is an offensive defenceman playing just down the road, and Morrison comes from the same team as last year’s steal, Kyle Connor. Like Toronto, Winnipeg takes a few boom-bust types in the later rounds with nice upside if they pan out.

Columbus Blue Jackets 2 square logo

Columbus Blue Jackets

3) Jesse Puljujarvi (RW, Karpat, Finland)

34) Rasmus Asplund (C/LW, Farjestad, Sweden)

65) Lucas Carlsson (LHD, Brynas, Sweden)

155) William Lockwood (RW, U.S. National Development Team)

185) Antti Kalapudas (LW/C, Karpat/KalPa, Finland)

TOTAL: 5 (2 RW, 1 C, 1 LHD, 1 LW)

ANALYSIS: Puljujarvi is the easy pick at No. 3, and the Blue Jackets would feel like they won the lottery twice if Asplund landed in their lap at No. 34. With picks few and far between for Columbus this year, it will need to make the most of those two early ones. The latter three are more so long-shots but, not surprisingly, the Blue Jackets use four of five selections on Scandinavians.

Edmonton Oilers square logo

Edmonton Oilers

4) Matthew Tkachuk (LW, London, OHL)

32) Carter Hart (G, Everett, WHL)

63) Wade Allison (RW, Tri-City, USHL)

84) David Quenneville (RHD, Medicine Hat, WHL)

91) William Knierim (RW, Dubuque, USHL)

123) Jordan Sambrook (RHD, Erie, OHL)

149) Brennan Menell (RHD, Vancouver, WHL)

153) Veini Vehvilainen (G, YJP, Finland)

183) Manuel Wiederer (RW, Moncton, QMJHL)

TOTAL: 9 (1 LW, 2 G, 3 RW, 3 RHD)

ANALYSIS: The Oilers would have lots to be happy about if this plan played out. It’s still a big if that Edmonton keeps No. 4, but without any fictitious trades in this mock, Tkachuk has seemingly played his way into that spot. The Oilers also land a couple local boys, a couple goalies and a couple hard-nosed wingers with skill. Edmonton also addresses an organizational need for right-handed defence prospects and roles the dice on a German developing in North America.

Vancouver Canucks 1 square logo

Vancouver Canucks

5) Pierre-Luc Dubois (C/LW, Cape Breton, QMJHL)

64) Ty Ronning (RW, Vancouver, WHL)

140) Connor Hall (LHD, Kitchener, OHL)

154) Daniil Miromanov (RW, Acadie-Bathurst, QMJHL)

184) Jack Walker (LW, Victoria, WHL)

194) Maxim Lazarev (LW/RW, Cape Breton, QMJHL)

TOTAL: 6 (1 C, 2 RW, 1 LHD, 2 LW)

ANALYSIS: The Canucks get the guy they want in Dubois at No. 5, then reach a little for the hometown boy, Ronning, after trading away their fourth-rounder. Ronning probably won’t be there at No. 140, so if Vancouver really wants him, it’ll have to take him ahead of schedule. The other four picks could prove savvy, especially the pair of seventh-rounders.

Calgary Flames square logo

Calgary Flames

6) Alexander Nylander (LW, Mississauga, OHL)

35) Boris Katchouk (LW/RW, Sault Ste. Marie, OHL)

54) Conner Bleackley (C, Red Deer, WHL)

56) Markus Niemelainen (LHD, Saginaw, OHL)

66) Tanner Kaspick (LW/C, Brandon, WHL)

96) Filip Berglund (RHD, Skelleftea Jr., Sweden)

126) Calvin Thurkauf (LW, Kelowna, WHL)

156) Vladimir Bobylev (LW, Victoria, WHL)

166) Kristian Reichel (C, Litvinov, Czech Republic)

186) Brandon Hagel (LW, Red Deer, WHL)

TOTAL: 10 (6 LW, 2 C, 1 LHD, 1 RHD)

ANALYSIS: The Flames come away with a good mix of skill and size, character and grit. Nylander and Katchouk could be impact players sooner than later and Bleackley might be knocking on the door right away. Calgary also picks a couple Scandinavian blue-liners and a plethora of rugged wingers, with a bit of European flair for good measure.

Phoenix Coyotes square logo

Arizona Coyotes

7) Logan Brown (C, Windsor, OHL)

20) Dante Fabbro (RHD, Penticton, BCHL)

37) Taylor Raddysh (RW, Erie, OHL)

53) Lucas Johansen (LHD, Kelowna, WHL)

68) Luke Green (RHD, Saint John, QMJHL)

128) Linus Weissbach (LW/RW, Frölunda Jr., Sweden)

158) Sebastian Aho (LHD, Skelleftea, Sweden)

188) Todd Burgess (C/RW, Fairbanks, NAHL)

TOTAL: 8 (2 C, 2 RHD, 1 RW, 2 LHD, 1 LW)

ANALYSIS: Unable to land the homegrown Matthews, the Coyotes take arguably the next-best natural centre in Brown, who gives Arizona a ton of size down the middle and a playmaker who already has chemistry with Coyotes prospect Christian Fischer. Arizona also gets Dylan Strome’s wingman in Raddysh and loads up on defence prospects before grabbing a couple of talented Swedes and a different homegrown product in the final round.

Buffalo Sabres square logo

Buffalo Sabres

8) Olli Juolevi (LHD, London, OHL)

38) Adam Fox (RHD, U.S. National Development Team)

69) Mitchell Mattson (C, Bloomington, USHL)

85) Simon Stransky (LW, Prince Albert, WHL)

86) Max Lajoie (LHD, Swift Current, WHL)

89) Andrew Peeke (RHD, Green Bay, USHL)

99) Dylan Wells (G, Peterborough, OHL)

129) Griffin Luce (LHD, U.S. National Development Team)

130) Connor Bunnaman (C, Kitchener, OHL)

159) Cole Candella (LHD, Hamilton, OHL)

189) Ondrej Najman (C, Dukla Jihlava Jr., Czech Republic)

190) Kenny Johnson (LHD, Shattuck St. Mary’s Midget Prep)

TOTAL: 12 (5 LHD, 2 RHD, 3 C, 1 LW, 1 G)

ANALYSIS: The Sabres are loaded with picks this year and come away with a little bit of everything, albeit with an emphasis on left-handed defencemen. Juolevi makes a lot of sense at No. 8 if he’s still available and don’t be surprised if Buffalo prioritizes blue-liners this time around. But the Sabres have enough picks to mix in some intriguing forwards and even a goaltender.

Montreal Canadiens square logo

Montreal Canadiens

9) Tyson Jost (C/LW, Penticton, BCHL)

39) Frederic Allard (RHD, Chicoutimi, QMJHL)

45) Cam Dineen (LHD, North Bay, OHL)

70) Stepan Falkovsky (LHD, Ottawa, OHL)

100) Otto Somppi (C, Halifax, QMJHL)

124) Joseph Woll (G, U.S. National Development Team)

160) Keaton Middleton (LHD, Saginaw, OHL)

TOTAL: 7 (2 C, 1 RHD, 3 LHD, 1 G)

ANALYSIS: The Canadiens couldn’t have scripted it any better than this. Starting with a quality centre possessing future captain intangibles, followed by a Francophone defenceman in a run of blue-liners that also includes a couple monsters. Montreal rounds it out with a Finnish forward and an American goaltender.

Colorado Avalanche square logo

Colorado Avalanche

10) Mikhail Sergachev (LHD, Windsor, OHL)

40) Carl Grundstrom (LW, Modo, Sweden)

71) Victor Mete (LHD, London, OHL)

131) Maxime Fortier (RW, Halifax, QMJHL)

161) Matthew Boucher (LW, Quebec, QMJHL)

191) Nathan Noel (C, Saint John, QMJHL)

TOTAL: 6 (2 LHD, 2 LW, 1 RW, 1 C)

ANALYSIS: The Avs are another team targeting high-end defencemen in the early stages and they are fortunate to get a couple. Colorado also gets a Swede who boasts many of the same attributes as captain Gabriel Landeskog, before hitting up the QMJHL for a few forwards from Patrick Roy’s old stomping grounds.

New Jersey Devils square logo

New Jersey Devils

11) Jakob Chychrun (LHD, Sarnia, OHL)

41) Will Bitten (C, Flint, OHL)

73) Filip Hronek (RHD, Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic)

77) Joey Anderson (RW, U.S. National Development Team)

102) Trent Frederic (C, U.S. National Development Team)

105) Jonathan Ang (C, Peterborough, OHL)

132) Alan Lyszczarczyk (C, Sudbury, OHL)

162) Ross Colton (LW, Cedar Rapids, USHL)

192) Graham McPhee (LW, U.S. National Development Team)

TOTAL: 9 (1 LHD, 4 C, 1 RHD, 1 RW, 2 LW)

ANALYSIS: The Devils probably weren’t planning on picking a defenceman in the first round, but they couldn’t resist with one of the better ones still on the board at No. 11. After that, it’s all forwards all the time, with the exception of Hronek. Bitten and Anderson are high-ceiling prospects and the rest seem like good value picks in those spots, including the local product in Colton.

Ottawa Senators square logo

Ottawa Senators

12) Clayton Keller (C, U.S. National Development Team)

42) Evan Fitzpatrick (G, Sherbrooke, QMJHL)

80) Henrik Borgstrom (C, HIFK Jr., Finland)

103) Brandon Gignac (C, Shawinigan, QMJHL)

133) Gabriel Sylvestre (RHD, Shawinigan, QMJHL)

163) Pius Suter (C/LW, ZSC Lions, Switzerland)

TOTAL: 6 (4 C, 1 G, 1 RHD)

ANALYSIS: The Senators get an offensive catalyst in Keller, who has a history with Ottawa’s first-rounder from last year, Colin White. Fitzpatrick is a good-sized goalie, those mid-round centres have nice upside and Suter would come highly recommended by Marc Crawford, while Sylvestre would be good value in that spot.

Carolina Hurricanes square logo

Carolina Hurricanes

13) Michael McLeod (C, Mississauga, OHL)

21) Max Jones (LW, London, OHL)

43) Janne Kuokkanen (RW, Karpat Jr., Finland)

50) Aapeli Rasanen (C, Tappara Jr., Finland)

67) Artur Kayumov (LW, Russian U18 Team)

74) Yegor Korshkov (RW, Lokomotiv, KHL)

75) Alexander Polunin (LW, Lokomotiv, KHL)

104) Jesper Bratt (RW, AIK Div. II, Sweden)

134) Riley Stillman (LHD, Oshawa, OHL)

164) Hayden Verbeek (C, Sault Ste. Marie, OHL)

TOTAL: 10 (3 C, 3 LW, 3 RW, 1 LHD)

ANALYSIS: The Hurricanes get the last of the first wave of centres in McLeod, then the big body that they were coveting in Jones to address a couple needs with their first-rounders. The Finns in the second round seem typical of Carolina, the Russians in the third round is an interesting concept, while bloodlines factor into the final two picks.

Boston Bruins square logo

Boston Bruins

14) Charlie McAvoy (RHD, Boston University, NCAA)

29) Logan Stanley (LHD, Windsor, OHL)

49) Dennis Cholowski (LHD, Chilliwack, BCHL)

135) Jordy Stallard (C/LW, Calgary, WHL)

136) Ben Gleason (LHD, Hamilton, OHL)

165) Josh Mahura (LHD, Red Deer, WHL)

195) Casey Fitzgerald (RHD, Boston College, NCAA)

TOTAL: 7 (2 RHD, 4 LHD, 1 C)

ANALYSIS: The Bruins were all over the board last year with some peculiar picks, but this year they stay closer to the consensus in targeting defence early and often. D, D and more D is the theme of Boston’s draft in this mock.

Minnesota Wild square logo

Minnesota Wild

15) Kieffer Bellows (LW, U.S. National Development Team)

106) Connor Ingram (G, Kamloops, WHL)

196) Michael Graham (F, Fargo, USHL)

204) Brinson Pasichnuk (LHD, Bonnyville, AJHL)

TOTAL: 4 (1 LW, 1 G, 1 F, 1 LHD)

ANALYSIS: The Wild will predictably be all over Bellows at No. 15, then bust out some surprising picks the rest of the way.

Detroit Red Wings square logo

Detroit Red Wings

16) Jake Bean (LHD, Calgary, WHL)

46) Filip Gustavsson (G, Lulea Jr., Sweden)

107) Kasper Bjorkqvist (LW, Blues Jr., Finland)

137) David Bernhardt (LHD, Djurgardens Jr., Sweden)

167) Daniel Marmenlind (G, Orebro Jr., Sweden)

197) Tarmo Reunanen (LHD, TPS Jr., Finland)

TOTAL: 6 (3 LHD, 2 G, 1 LW)

ANALYSIS: The Red Wings always draft well and tend to go heavy on Scandinavian talent, so this haul would be both fitting and impressive. Bean is the lone North American, but if he continues to develop at his current rate, he’ll be a steal at No. 16.

Nashville Predators square logo

Nashville Predators

17) Tyler Benson (C/LW, Vancouver, WHL)

47) Sam Steel (C, Regina, WHL)

78) Adam Brooks (C, Regina, WHL)

108) Jacob Neveu (RHD, Rouyn-Noranda, QMJHL)

138) Kyle Maksimovich (LW, Erie, OHL)

168) Leevi Laakso (G, Sport Jr., Finland)

198) Jesper Mattila (LHD, Ilves Jr., Finland)

TOTAL: 7 (3 C, 1 RHD, 1 LW, 1 G, 1 LHD)

ANALYSIS: The Predators aren’t scared off by Benson’s injury-plagued draft year and don’t hesitate to take him at No. 17. Steel and Brooks are teammates, so keeping them together makes sense for Nashville. The Preds take a couple best-player-available options, then close it out with a couple Finns, including a netminder.

Philadelphia Flyers square logo

Philadelphia Flyers

18) Julien Gauthier (RW, Val-d’Or, QMJHL)

48) Nathan Bastian (C/RW, Mississauga, OHL)

52) Adam Mascherin (LW, Kitchener, OHL)

79) Givani Smith (LW, Guelph, OHL)

82) Noah Gregor (C, Moose Jaw, WHL)

109) Beck Malenstyn (C, Calgary, WHL)

139) Max Zimmer (LW, Chicago, USHL)

169) Jeff De Wit (C, Red Deer, WHL)

172) Travis Barron (LW, Ottawa, OHL)

199) Keenan Suthers (LW, U.S. National Development Team)

TOTAL: 10 (1 RW, 4 C, 5 LW)

ANALYSIS: This would be a pretty typical Flyers draft — lots of good-sized forwards with snarl. Philadelphia already has an abundance of high-end defence prospects and grabbed a couple goalies last year, so expect the emphasis to be on forwards.

New York Islanders square logo

New York Islanders

19) Riley Tufte (LW, Fargo Force, USHL)

110) Mikhail Maltsev (LW, Russian U18 Team)

170) Garrett Pilon (C, Kamloops, WHL)

193) Ondrej Vala (LHD, Kamloops, WHL)

200) Joseph Masonius (LHD, University of Connecticut, NCAA)

TOTAL: 5 (2 LW, 1 C, 2 LHD)

ANALYSIS: The Islanders have been drafting very well in recent years, but they swing for the fences for the most part in this mock. Perhaps that is because their prospect pool is already overflowing with talent, but the Islanders could be uncovering a few more gems with this group.

Florida Panthers square logo

Florida Panthers

23) Luke Kunin (LW/C, University of Wisconsin, NCAA)

33) Brett Howden (C/LW, Moose Jaw, WHL)

94) Otto Makinen (C, Tappara Jr., Finland)

114) Nicholas Caamano (RW, Flint, OHL)

174) Joona Koppanen (C, Ilves Jr. Finland)

175) Kevin Klima (C, Moncton, QMJHL)

TOTAL: 6 (1 LW, 4 C, 1 RW)

ANALYSIS: Getting that second-rounder from the Canucks and replenishing some picks turned this into a nice draft for the new-look Cats, starting with a potential steal in Kunin, who could be this year’s Connor if he’s available into the 20s. Howden’s brother is already on the Panthers’ roster, and so are a couple Finns. Why not add a twin?

Anaheim Ducks square logo

Anaheim Ducks

24) Alex DeBrincat (C/RW, Erie, OHL)

76) Jack Kopacka (LW, Sault Ste. Marie, OHL)

93) Zach Sawchenko (G, Moose Jaw, WHL)

115) Daniel Kurovsky (LW, Vitkovice Jr., Czech Republic)

205) Lukas Doudera (LHD, HC Trinec, Czech Republic)

TOTAL: 5 (1 C, 2 LW, 1 G, 1 LHD)

ANALYSIS: The Ducks go best-player-available in the early stages and could get good value with DeBrincat at No. 24, and especially with Kopacka at No. 76. Anaheim could use another goalie in the system, and also goes searching for a European steal in the later rounds.

Dallas Stars square logo

Dallas Stars

25) German Rubtsov (C, Russian U18 Team)

90) Mikhail Berdin (G, Russian U18 Team)

116) Jacob Cederholm (RHD, HV71 Jr., Sweden)

146) Reid Gardiner (RW, Prince Albert, WHL)

176) Josh Dickinson (C, Georgetown, OJHL)

TOTAL: 5 (2 C, 1 G, 1 RHD, 1 RW)

ANALYSIS: The Stars haven’t shied away from Russian prospects in recent years, even if Valeri Nichushkin and Denis Gurianov aren’t blowing the doors off yet. Rubtsov and Berdin are teammates, so get one and probably get them both. Berdin is a much-needed goalie prospect, while bloodlines give promise to a couple other picks.

Washington Capitals square logo

Washington Capitals

26) Vitaly Abramov (RW/C, Gatineau, QMJHL)

117) Josh Anderson (LHD, Prince George, WHL)

145) Otto Koivula (LW, Ilves Jr., Finland)

147) Ivan Kosorenkov (RW, Russian U18 Team)

177) Egor Babenko (LW, Lethbridge, WHL)

207) Vladislav Sukhachyov (G, Russian U18 Team)

TOTAL: 6 (2 RW, 1 LHD, 2 LW, 1 G)

ANALYSIS: The Capitals go high skill aside from Anderson, a safe stay-at-home defenceman. The rest of Washington’s picks here could turn out really good or really bad. Probably a bit of both.

Tampa Bay Lightning square logo

Tampa Bay Lightning

27) Pascal Laberge (RW/C, Victoriaville, QMJHL)

45) Dmitry Sokolov (RW, Sudbury, OHL)

58) Jordan Kyrou (RW, Sarnia, OHL)

88) J.D. Greenway (LHD, U.S. National Development Team)

118) Igor Svyrev (C, Magnitogorsk Jr., Russia)

148) Anthony Salinitri (C, Sarnia, OHL)

178) Mitch Eliot (RHD, Muskegon, USHL)

206) Nick Pastujov (LW, U.S. National Development Team)

208) Samuel Laberge (LW/RW, Rimouski, QMJHL)

TOTAL: 9 (3 RW, 1 LHD, 2 C, 1 RHD, 2 LW)

ANALYSIS: The Lightning have a good number of picks and use them to add a good mix of prospects. Look out for that Russian in the second round — Tampa tends to steal them.

St. Louis Blues square logo

St. Louis Blues

28) Tage Thompson (C, University of Connecticut, NCAA)

59) Ryan Lindgren (LHD, U.S. National Development Team)

87) Linus Lindstrom (C, Skelleftea Jr., Sweden)

119) Colton Bobyk (LHD, Red Deer, WHL)

125) Brett Murray (LW, Carleton Place, CCHL)

209) Tyler Soy (C, Victoria, WHL)

211) Jake Kryski (LW, Kamloops, WHL)

TOTAL: 7 (3 C, 2 LHD, 2 LW)

ANALYSIS: The Blues would be stoked to land Thompson and could have a couple steals later on — including another Colton from Alberta.

Los Angeles Kings square logo

Los Angeles Kings

51) Libor Hajek (LHD, Saskatoon, WHL)

112) Tomas Soustal (RW/C, Kelowna, WHL)

142) Nolan Stevens (C, Northeastern University, NCAA)

202) Jake Ryczek (RHD, Sioux City-Waterloo, USHL)

TOTAL: 4 (1 LHD, 1 RW, 1 C, 1 RHD)

ANALYSIS: The Kings go with a little of this and a little of that. Hajek is a nice addition to the future defence corps and Los Angeles keeps it in the family by selecting associate coach John Stevens’ son. Soustal and Ryczek could be decent snags too.

Pittsburgh Penguins square logo

Pittsburgh Penguins

55) Jonathan Dahlen (C, Timra Div. II, Sweden)

61) Chad Krys (LHD, U.S. National Development Team)

121) Markus Nurmi (RW/LW, TPS Jr., Finland)

151) Mathias From (RW/LW, Rogle Jr., Sweden)

181) Brogan O’Brien (LW, Prince George, WHL)

TOTAL: 5 (1 C, 1 LHD, 2 RW, 1 LW)

ANALYSIS: The Penguins will have to cross their fingers and their toes in hopes that Dahlen falls to No. 55. Krys’s stock is falling, but he’s still a quality prospect, and the latter three have intriguing potential to say the least.

San Jose Sharks square logo

San Jose Sharks

60) Dillon Dube (F, Kelowna, WHL)

111) Matt Filipe (C/LW, Cedar Rapids, USHL)

120) Stephen Dhillon (G, Niagara, OHL)

150) Matthew Cairns (LHD, Georgetown, OJHL)

180) Carsen Twarynski (LW, Calgary, WHL)

210) Dawson Davidson (LHD, Kamloops, WHL)

TOTAL: 6 (1 F, 1 C, 1 G, 2 LHD, 1 LW)

ANALYSIS: The Sharks also go with the variety pack this year. If Dube falls that far, he’ll be out to prove his upside next season. Filipe is an enticing talent too and there’s some potential in those defencemen as well as that goaltender.

New York Rangers square logo

New York Rangers

81) Matthew Phillips (C, Victoria, WHL)

98) Eetu Tuulola (RW, HPK Jr., Finland)

141) Rem Pitlick (C, Muskegon, USHL)

171) Collin Adams (LW, Muskegon, USHL)

201) Jakob Stukel (LW, Vancouver/Calgary, WHL)

TOTAL: 5 (2 C, 1 RW, 2 LW)

ANALYSIS: The Rangers aren’t afraid to roll the dice on smaller players with big skill, considering they already have a fair bit of size among the forwards on their current roster. Phillips, Pitlick and Adams can all be labeled small, even little, but the game is changing and there could soon be room for them in the big league.

Chicago Blackhawks square logo

Chicago Blackhawks

83) Jacob Moverare (LHD, HV71 Jr., Sweden)

95) Dylan Gambrell (C, University of Denver, NCAA)

113) Anatoli Golyshev (LW/RW, Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg, KHL)

143) Hudson Elynuik (LW, Spokane, WHL)

144) Vojtech Budik (LHD, Prince Albert, WHL)

173) Tanner Laczynski (C, Chicago-Lincoln, USHL)

203) Artur Lauta (RW, Avangard Omsk, KHL)

TOTAL: 7 (2 LHD, 2 C, 2 LW, 1 RW)

ANALYSIS: The Blackhawks would be a tad shocked to see Moverare sitting there at No. 83 and would be wise to take him if that’s the case. Chicago tries to make the most of its fourth-rounders with Gambrell and Golyshev before grabbing a couple good value picks out of the WHL, then finishing up with an Illinois product who started his draft year in the Windy City, plus another intriguing Russian.
