Hockey World Reacts to Steve Montador’s Passing

As the hockey world mourns the loss of former NHL defenseman Steve Montador, reaction has been pouring in from all parts of the community. Fans, players and media alike have all been leaving their thoughts on the untimely death of one of the league’s “good guys”.

Montador was a big part of the Calgary Flames’ run to the Stanley Cup Finals in the spring of 2004, appearing in 20 of the team’s postseason games as a young player still trying to earn his keep in the league.

Off the ice, Montador was known for excessive charity work, including helping out those in need in Africa. An outpouring of support has come in for Montador’s family and friends from those who knew him, and those who didn’t. You can see some of the reactions below.

Regarding the investigation surrounding his death, police are treating it as a “sudden death investigation”, and foul play is not expected to be a cause at this time. An autopsy is currently pending.
