On Thursday evening the Philadelphia Flyers announced a big contract extension for forward Jakub Voracek.
The Flyers are very sneaky and decided not to announce term or money and just told fans that Voracek re-signed to some years and some money. Luckily, TSN’s Frank Seravalli passed along that the deal carries a term of eight years and an AAV of $8.25 million.
That puts Voracek tied for the 10th biggest cap hit in the league with Eric Staal and Ryan Getzlaf.

Last season the soon-to-be 26-year-old forward posted 22 goals and 59 assists, which was good to tie him with Alex Ovechkin for fourth in the NHL in points. He also finished second in the NHL in assists, just one assist behind Niklas Backstrom.
Next season Voracek will still be a $4.25 million cap hit, but the season after that he and captain Claude Giroux will combine for over $16.5 million against the cap. With Voracek still on his cheaper deal this season the Flyers currently are projected to have $583,334 of cap space remaining, according to General Fanager.
