The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed defenseman Andrew Campbell to a two-year, two-way contract, the team announced on Tuesday.
Campbell had previously been on an AHL only deal with the club, but was attending NHL training camp.
The 27-year-old Caledonia-native played 33 games with the Arizona Coyotes last season, the most he’s played with a NHL club. In that time he had a single assist and 10 penalty minutes. Campbell had previously played just three NHL games with the Los Angeles Kings in the 2013-14 season.
The Leafs had been looking for some defensive insurance, with a few players vying for a deal during training camp.
