The St. Louis Blues have waived 24-year-old winger Magnus Paajarvi, according to Elliotte Friedman.
Paajarvi has struggled to deliver on the promise he showed during his rookie season with the Edmonton Oilers when he was just 19. That year he put in 15 goals and 19 assists in 80 games. Injuries have hampered him some, but the most points he’s scored since then were 16 in the 2012-13 season through 42 games.
He came to St. Louis as a key piece of the July 2013 trade that sent David Perron to Edmonton, garnering a 2nd round pick and Paajarvi in return.
He hasn’t been able to make his time in St. Louis work for him, scoring six goals and 12 points through 55 games his first season there and playing just 10 games last year registering only one point.
He did find some success with the Chicago Wolves in the AHL last season however, scoring 11 goals and 18 assists through 36 contests.
With a single year left on his deal worth $700,000 (one-way), he may be a worthy pick-up, since if he can find success with a new team he will be a RFA when the deal is up and would be sticking around.
