The Colorado Avalanche have released veteran defender Andrej Meszaros from his camp tryout, the team announced on Wednesday.
The 11-year veteran had been at training camp on a tryout as the Avs attempt to shore up some of their depth issues on the blue line.
Meszaros is coming off a one-year, $4.125 million contract with the Buffalo Sabres, playing 60 games for the team last year. The 29-year-old Slovakian defenseman scored seven goals and seven assists on a historically bad Sabres squad last year.
There are still a couple teams looking to solve some holes defensively, so Meszaros name may pop up again, though there are quite a few veterans who have been released from tryout deals over the last week, including Sheldon Brookbank, Jan Hejda, Lubomir Visnovsky and others. That may mean that it makes it increasingly difficult for any of them to find a job.
