Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand will have a hearing with the NHL’s Department of Player Safety on Wednesday after a couple of incidents in Tuesday’s game against the Ottawa Senators. The hearing is scheduled for 4:30pm ET, according to ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun.
No clarity of whether the hearing is for a potential clip against the Senators Mark Borowiecki or if it’s for spearing Kyle Turris at the end of game. Both could be the source of Marchand’s hearing.
This news comes just five days after the Boston Globe’s Amalie Benjamin published a piece where Marchand opened up and said, “It does bother me that I’m just labeled as an agitator when I know I can score goals and I know I can put up points and be a good player.”
The clip came when Borowiecki didn’t even had the puck. No penalty was assessed on the play.
Then Marchand speared Turris after the whistle had blown late in the game. Marchand was assessed a two-minute minor penalty for slashing on the play.
Senators coach Dave Cameron was clearly unhappy about the no-call on Borowiecki. He said after the game that he was surprised Marchand was still in the game to be able to spear Turris late in the game.
The unfortunate thing here, is that if a suspension does come down from the league, Boston will lose Marchand for the Winter Classic, which will make one of the league’s premiere events a little less interesting.
Marchand followed up his statement about not wanting to be called an agitator by being pretty… agitating.
Boston's Brad Marchand will have a hearing today for clipping and interference on Ottawa's Mark Borowiecki.
