Minnesota Wild captain Mikko Koivu was sent to a local hospital on Tuesday following an awkward crash into the boards, according to the Star Tribune’s Michael Russo.
Koivu was jostling for position with David Savard just a couple minutes into Tuesday’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets when he was pushed over and slid into the boards back first. Koivu was slow to get up, but got up during play and made his way slowly to the bench.
The report from Russo comes from the team, who hasn’t made an official announcement about Koivu’s injury. It goes without saying that he will not be returning to Tuesday’s match in Columbus.
