Philadelphia Flyers prospect Travis Konecny said he was shocked when he and teammate Sam Studnicka (undrafted) were traded to the Sarnia Sting from the Ottawa 67s this week in the OHL.
It was a massive trade for Sarnia, bringing in two players that rank first and fourth on the team in scoring (Konecny is first and he missed time to represent Canada at World Juniors), sending two players and as many as 10 draft picks in the other direction.
His short time with Sarnia has been awfully productive already. In two games, he’s posted three goals as well as the game-winner in the shootout on Saturday against the Saginaw Spirit.
That winner was spectacular, a jaw-dropper. Watch him change directions on a dime to pot the winner behind Saginaw’s Evan Cormier (’16 eligible) via the below GIF from Brady Trettenero.

Through 31 games Konecny has 10 goals and 48 points. His 38 assists rank fifth in the OHL.
