The Calgary Flames announced Wednesday that goaltender Karri Ramo will miss the remainder of the season with an ACL tear and meniscus damage. The injury will require surgery. His recovery timeline has been set at six-to-eight months.
Ramo suffered the injury during a Feb. 11 game against the San Jose Sharks. It is a significant blow to any hopes that the Flames could go on a run and make the postseason.
While Ramo hasn’t been great this year — and was even waived earlier in the season — he’s been Calgary’s best goaltender. His .909 save percentage is a good step up from the .889 Jonas Hiller has posted or the .862 Joni Ortio is carrying.
It’s telling of how the year has gone for Calgary that Ramo’s .919 even strength save percentage ranks 48th in the NHL and it’s a big loss that he’s done for the year.
Hiller has a .907 even strength save percentage. Only four goaltenders who have played at least 280 even strength minutes have a lower mark than Hiller. Ortio doesn’t qualify there, but his .877 is a story unto itself.
The Flames are currently nine points back from the last wild card spot in the Western Conference, but have four games in hand on eighth place Colorado.
As per Brad Treliving, Karri Ramo has a torn ACL and meniscus damage. He will miss the remainder of the season.
