According to Elliotte Friedman, the New Jersey Devils have claimed defenseman David Warsofsky off waivers from the Pittsburgh Penguins this afternoon.

The 25-year-old blueliner was drafted by the St. Louis Blues in the fourth round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. He never got the opportunity to play with the Blues and saw his first NHL action with the Boston Bruins during the 2013-14 season. Warsofsky has played in 22 games NHL games, including 12 with the Penguins this season. He has recorded just one goal with a minus-6 rating and averaged 17:45 minutes of ice-time.
Warsofsky is on the books for $600,000 this season but will be an unrestricted free agent this summer. The Penguins have cleared $129,032 in usable cap space as a result of the Devils claiming the 25-year-old Massachusetts native.

The Devils are doing what they can to re-enter the 2016 playoff picture. They are currently three points behind the Penguins for the second and final wild-card spot with a 30-26-7 record.
