Joseph Blandisi & Devante Smith-Pelly Fined For Diving

Two Devils had the hammer come down on them Thursday, with Joseph Blandisi and Devante Smith-Pelly getting fined for diving.

Under NHL Rule 64 both will be fined $2,000 for their second diving/embellishment infraction of the season. That brings the total number of Devils with a diving fine on the year to four, though both of Smith-Pelly’s embellishments came while he was a member of the Montreal Canadiens, so they won’t count toward a fine for coach John Hynes.

A team coach begins getting fines once team members have been fined five times.

Smith-Pelly’s second infraction came while embellishing a slashing penalty in a Feb. 24 contest against the Washington Capitals.

Blandisi’s second infraction came in a Feb. 23 game against the New York Rangers when he drew a penalty and was assessed a penalty for diving.

Here’s Blandisi’s second dive.

His first embellishment made the rounds as a pretty extreme embellishment.

Here’s Smith-Pelly’s second dive.
