Russell, a sizable forward at 6-foot-1 and 205-pounds, is known for his heavy shot and ability to find space in the offensive zone. He has played two season at St. Cloud State, netting 30 goals and 66 total points in 81 games. Prior to his college career, he scored 29 goals and 49 total points for the Waterloo Blackhawks of the USHL in 2013-14.
SBNCollegeHockey.Com had Russell ranked 68th overall among NCAA prospects, adding that while he isn’t a great skater, he moves his feet well without the puck which leads to his ability to find open areas and shooting lanes.
The Oilers also announced the acquisition of Drake Caggiula this past weekend. Caggiula, a product of North Dakota, was highly sought after prior to signing in Edmonton.
