Erixon was acquired by Pittsburgh as part of the Phil Kessel trade, along with forward Tyler Biggs and a second round draft pick (Kasper Bjorkvist). The 25-year old defenseman has played 93 NHL games with the New York Rangers, Columbus Blue Jackets, Chicago Blackhawks and Toronto Maple Leafs, recording two goals and 14 total points.
Last season, Erixon did not see NHL time and played 65 games at the AHL level with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. He scored three goals and 20 total points in the regular season, then added two goals and six total points in 10 postseason games.
His new contract will carry a salary of $575,000 at the NHL level.
