Maple Leafs to Wear Special Uniforms in 2016-17

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced this week that the club will wear special uniforms on January 1 in the Centennial Classic and on March 18 for St. Patrick’s Day.

New Years Day’s Centennial Classic will be played at BMO Field in Toronto, Ontario against the Detroit Red Wings to celebrate the organization’s 100-year anniversary. BMO Field is the home of Major League Soccer’s Toronto FC and the Canadian Football League’s Toronto Argonauts. The arena has a capacity of 30,991 people.

A special alumni game will be held between the Maple Leafs and Red Wings prior to the January 1 game. Toronto’s special 100-year logo will be featured on Toronto’s jersey for the alumni contest.

“The Maple Leafs Centennial Anniversary comes at a very special time in the team’s history,” said Maple Leafs’ President Brendan Shanahan. “It allows us to look back and celebrate the great players, accomplishments and special memories of one of the most important franchises in hockey, but at the same time, look ahead to the next 100 years and the start of an exciting new chapter in team history.”
