With the NHL’s World Cup of Hockey just around the corner, the NHL and NHLPA held a press conference in Toronto on Wednesday to discuss the events and technological developments associated with the international event.
One of the biggest announcements made by the league was the 10-day family oriented World Cup Fan Village that will be held in Toronto’s Distillery District. The Village will be the go-to for hockey fans while the two-week tournament unfolds in the city’s downtown.
With The World Cup of Hockey Pepsi Premier Party set to take place on September 16 (one of the few ticketed events at the Fan Village) where teams will be introduced, the Village will also play host to numerous concerts (including Theo Fleury and the Death Valley Rebels), international food options and a life-size bubble hockey game.
Wait, what? Yes, you read that right.
There will be a life-size bubble hockey game held at the Molson Canadian Human Bubble Hockey pad giving fans the ultimate hockey experience. Along with this exciting opportunity, some of the other free attractions include viewing parties at the Molson Canadian Hockey House and the Rogers Fan Hub where fans can experience some of the newest technology associated with the game. As well, the Scotiabank Sport Pad will allow fans to showcase their skills with the Scotiabank Virtual Arena giving them a chance to watch the game from a totally different perspective.
Food options at the Fan Village will be available from all countries taking part in the tournament including pierogis, grilled cheese, BBQ ribs and many other options. Along with the Distillery District, the Village will take over 200,000 square feet east of the district where the Pepsi Live Main Stage will be located.
A family oriented addition to the event, the Fan Village will give fans a chance to meet alumni, see the World Cup Trophy up close and allow the city of Toronto to play host to one of the biggest NHL events in recent history.
