The Ottawa Senators have re-signed defenseman Cody Ceci to a two-year contract, the team announced Tuesday.
The 22-year-old restricted free agent gets a bridge deal carrying a value of $2.8 million per year. In actual cash Ceci gets $2.25 million in the first year and $3.35 million in the second year, positioning him well to get a nice payday in his next contract.
Last season was Ceci’s third in the league and his second full season of NHL action. He played 75 games, racking up 10 goals and 26 points with an adjusted CF%Rel of -4.42%.
Close contract comparables, via General Fanager, put his deal in a similar category to Minnesota’s Matt Dumba and Columbus’s Ryan Murray, but the increase in actual cash in the second year gives Ceci a leg up in negotiating the next deal. Neither Dumba or Murray got that increase.
After this signing, the Sens have just over $6.06 million in cap space remaining, according to General Fanager.
