When the Nashville Predators traded away Shea Weber in the deal that brought PK Subban to Music City U.S.A., many were so shocked that they forgot one of the biggest ramifications of the deal. Weber, before being traded to Montreal, was the captain of the Predators since July of 2010. Without Weber on the team, the biggest question remaining for the Predators this offseason was to decide on the next man to dawn the “C.” The answer is reportedly 36-year-old Mike Fisher, per Adam Vingan of The Tennessean.

For Fisher, this is the first time he will be wearing the captain’s “C” in the NHL, making him the sixth captain in Predator’s franchise history. For the last four seasons, he was an alternate captain on the Predators and was an alternate captain previously in Ottawa. In 70 games last season, Fisher managed to score 13 goals and 23 points. He also played in his 1,000th NHL game, something that very few Predators can claim.
The Predators are a very young team looking to finally reach their goal of the Stanley Cup. Fisher is one of just four players on the team’s current roster projected to be over 30-years-old when the season begins, along with Mike Ribeiro, Matte Carle, and Pekka Rinne. Having veteran leadership on a team is important, and blending it in with some of the young stars on the Predators roster could very well be the recipe for success for Nashville.
