Montreal Canadiens prospect Martin Reway could miss the 2016-17 season due to a heart condition. The Montreal Canadiens announced last week that Reway would be missing their upcoming training camp, but the sad reality is that the condition he’s dealing with is severe enough that it could cost the 21-year-old the coming season.
The Canadiens mentioned within their statement that head physician Dr. David Mulder would be monitoring Reway’s status very closely and in collaboration with the medical team in Slovakia.

The Canadiens drafted Reway with the 116th overall pick in the 4th round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. Since being drafted, Reway has spent time playing in Europe following two successful seasons with the Gatineau Olympiques of the QMJHL. Despite his small stature at 5-foot-8, he’s one of the Canadiens’ most skilled prospects and figures to have a bright future with the team should he fully recover from this condition.
In his last two seasons, Reway has spent time playing in the Czech league with Sparta Praha, as well as with Fribourg-Gotteron HC of the Swiss-A league. In his time playing in the Czech league, Reway posted 14 goals and 52 points in 48 games across two seasons. In 19 games in the Swiss-A league, Reway scored eight goals and 21 points.
