Despite a downward spiral that has Habs fans pulling out their hair, the Montreal Canadiens are not interested in trading 21-year-old center Alex Galchenyuk, according to Elliotte Friedman on Saturday “Headlines.”
Friedman said that a couple of teams have reached out to Montreal to see if Galchenyuk might be available after “everything that happened” over the last week or so. That “everything” probably isn’t limited to Galchenyuk’s personal life, as it also includes the announcement that Carey Price isn’t coming back for around a month, coach Michel Therrien’s seat getting hotter, the Canadiens continuing to struggle and Glachenyuk struggling on ice himself.
Their response: No. They’re not interested in moving Galchenyuk.
Montreal has plunged from the top of the standings in an incredible manner. They started the year as the NHL’s hottest team. Now, they’re three points out of a playoff spot. On December 2, they were 21 points up on the Carolina Hurricanes. They’re just two points up on them now and are 3-6-1 in their last 10.
Galchenyuk, too, has struggled. He is without a point in his last seven games and is not on pace to match his career-high 20 goals, set last season. Though he is on pace to tie the 46 points he posted last year.
