The Anaheim Ducks were founded as an expansion franchise in 1993 by The Walt Disney Company and originally named the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim with the name taking inspiration from the 1992 Walt Disney movie The Mighty Ducks. The team was sold in 2005 and a year later was rebranded as the Anaheim Ducks. Following the name and ownership change, the team found quick success with a trip to the Western Conference Final in 2006 and a Stanley Cup championship in 2007, which remains the franchise’s only championship.

Ducks’ 2024-25 Bounce Back Candidates: Trevor Zegras

Trevor Zegras is one of the more polarizing players in the NHL. The 22-year-old Anaheim Ducks center has built quite a reputation since entering the league in 2021. Anaheim Ducks Logo History

Despite that they’ve only been around for 30 years, the Anaheim Ducks sure do like taking a walk down memory lane. After he spent parts of six seasons with the team, the then-Mighty Ducks brought back Teemu Selanne for the 2005-06 season (and the eight that followed), four years after shipping him to the San Jose Sharks at the 2001 trade deadline. Former Ducks head coach Randy Carlyle, too, is a retread. He first coached the club for seven seasons after the 2004-05 lockout (a tenure that included winning the 2007 Stanley Cup). He was rehired for 2016-17, guiding the…
