The Anaheim Ducks have come to terms on a two-year, entry-level contract with University of Minnesota-Duluth defenseman Andy Welinski, the team announced Monday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The Duluth, MN native was a 3rd round pick (83rd overall) in the 2011 draft for the Ducks.
The 22-year-old defender put up 19 points (6-13-19) for the UMD Bulldogs in his senior season with the NCHC team. He lead team defensemen in points, goals, points per game (0.47) and plus/minus (plus-13) en route to being named to Second Team All-NCHC.
Prior to joining the bulldogs, Welinski played a year with the Green Bay Gamblers of the USHL and was named Defenseman of the Year en route to a Clark Cup Championship.
