Projected number one overall pick for the 2016 NHL Draft, Auston Matthews, continues to tear things up in the Swiss National League A (NLA), playing for the ZSC Lions.
His scoring prowess was highlighted this week when he sniped the upper corner against HC Fribourg-Gottéron (who recently acquired Habs prospect Martin Reway) and shattered the goaltender’s water bottle.
Matthews had been out with an injury for pretty good stretch that kept him from playing for the U.S. National Team at the Deutschland Cup.
Nonetheless, despite coming to the NLA late because of visa issues and missing a bunch of games early in the year his 13 goals have him with the team lead and not far from the top of the NLA, despite playing seven to eight games fewer than most of the scoring leaders.
He’ll be joining the U.S. National Team for their World Junior Championship Selection Camp, USA Hockey announced this week, and he’s expected to be a lock for the tournament, which starts on December 26 in Helsinki, Finland.

Rinse. Repeat.
