As reported by Josh Shannon of Sportsnet, the Colorado Avalanche signed Russian defenseman Fedor Tyutin to a one-year deal.

It looks like the deal will involve a cap hit of $2 million, as reported by Mile High Sports. Fedor Tyutin’s two-year contract was bought out by the Columbus Blue Jackets a few days ago. After the buy-out, Tyutin will receive just over $5.3 million from the Columbus franchise over the next four years. Tyutin, who will turn 33 next July 19, is a veteran of 13 NHL season, played with the New York Rangers, who drafted him 40th overall in 2001, and the Blue Jackets. Last year he didn’t play regularly for the Jackets, and was very vocally critic towards his coach John Tortorella.
This will be a new chapter for the Russian defenseman, who will have to show that he still has gas left in the tank after a disappointing 2015-16 campaign, where he posted only one goal and three points in 61 regular season games. These stats were all-time low for Tyutin, who now has a chance to give his career a good turn and maybe even meet what it is sometimes called a second youth. The move may be good for the Avs, who got an NHL veteran with a relatively low cap hit, and while Tyutin may be not as good as he was a few years ago, he still has all the tools to become a valuable player for the Colorado-based franchise.
The Izhevsk, Russia, native has also recently lost his spot with the Russian national team. Once a regular player for the Russians whenever he had a chance to play, he played last with the Red Army at the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi. He also represented Russia at the 2010 and 2006 Olympics.
It has been a busy day for the Avs, who also signed defensemen Ryan Stanton and Patrick Wierchok, and forwards Turner Elson and Joe Colborn.
