Pittsburgh Penguins forward Beau Bennett will miss four-to-six weeks with an upper-body injury, new head coach Mike Sullivan announced on Tuesday.
Bennett was injured during the first period of Monday’s game against the Washington Capitals after being hit into the boards by the Caps’ T.J. Oshie.
Bennett has five goals and five assists through 24 games this season for the Penguins and has already missed time with an injury. It’s not yet clear who will be recalled from the AHL to take his place in the lineup. The team hasn’t announced a recall yet.
21-year-old 2015 draft pick Dominik Simon is lighting up the AHL right now, with 11 goals and 25 points in 24 games for Wilkes-Barre Scranton.
It’s terrible timing for the team, who is without Marc-Andre Fleury as well, has Kris Letang recovering from an injury, had Pascal Dupuis end his career due to a medical issue and just had their first game with new head coach Mike Sullivan.
They also made a trade on Monday to acquire defenseman Trevor Daley.
It creates a difficult environment for the team to find their bearings and right the ship.
