Friday night’s game between the Anaheim Ducks and Washington Capitals in the nation’s capital has been postponed. The game had previously been moved up to 5pm in order to beat out the blizzard.
The NHL announced that the postponement, which had been speculated on all day, is “due to the severe snow impacting the Washington, D.C., area.” A make-up game will be scheduled, but they have not been able to confirm a date for that yet.
The announcement came after the local government urged the NHL to cancel the game and after the NBA canceled D.C. games for the weekend, anticipating up to two-feet of snow.
For the other weekend match in D.C., a visit from the Pittsburgh Penguins, the league will make an announcement on their plans for the game on Saturday morning.
The other game expected to be effected by Winter Storm Jonas, is the game between the New York Rangers and Carolina Hurricanes on Friday. That game will still be played at 7pm, but since there is a state of emergency declared across North Carolina, all tickets are eligible for a ticket exchange if they go unused.
DC officials want everyone sheltered in place for the weekend no later than 3PM.
