It’s a good news/bad news situation for the Detroit Red Wings as the team discovers that they’ll lose center Brad Richards for one to two weeks due to a back injury, reports George Sipple of The Detroit Free Press.
The bad news is obviously that they’ve lost Richards and that he’s just one in a long line of injured players for the team right now as it again struggles through early season injuries.
The good news? It was reported on Monday that Richards went to New York to see a specialist about his lower back pain and it turns out that he’s only missing one to two weeks and won’t require back surgery, which would have had him missing a significant amount of time, comparatively.
Richards hasn’t exploded out of the starting blocks with his new team, recording just a pair of assists through the season’s first six games.
The Red Wings are currently without Mike Green (upper body), Pavel Datsyuk (ankle), Johan Franzen (concussion), and Kyle Quincey (concussion) due to injuries.
