The Columbus Blue Jackets, for the second season in a row, have started a mostly meaningless late-season surge, going 6-2-2 in their last 10. They may be continuing that surge without their leading scorer, Brandon Saad, who was injured in Friday’s 6-3 win over Edmonton.
Saad suffered an upper-body injury during the game, with the team announcing in-game that he would not be return after heading to the locker room. He took an open ice hit that hobbled him, but didn’t knock him out of the game right away. That is assumed to be the source of the ailment.
After the game the team made the determination that Saad would not travel with the team for their road tilt in Philadelphia, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Post-Dispatch reports.
Saad leads the Jackets with 24 goals and is in second with 41 points in 64 matches.
