Canucks Extend Sven Baertschi For a Year

The Vancouver Canucks have re-signed restricted free agent forward Sven Baertschi to a one-year, one-way deal, the team announced on Tuesday.

Details of the contract were not immediate available and were not made available by the team.

The 22-year-old forward is coming off the final year of his three-year, entry-level contract, which he signed with the Calgary Flames. He was acquired by the Canucks at the trade deadline from Calgary in exchange for the Canucks’ second round pick in the 2015 draft.

Last season he played a total of 18 NHL games, only three of which were with the Canucks. In those games he scored two goals and four assists. He spent the rest of the season in the AHL, playing 51 games divided between the Adirondack Flames and the Utica Comets, posting 15 goals and 25 assists between the two teams.

This ends a busy day (at least for July) for Vancouver, in which they acquired Brandon Sutter and a third round pick from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Nick Bonino, Adam Clendening, and a second round pick.

UPDATE:
Elliotte Friedman reports that the contract carries a $900K value.
