Saturday’s loss to the Arizona Coyotes was a big one for the Philadelphia Flyers as they jockey for playoff position against the Detroit Red Wings. However, the bigger news coming out of the game was an injury to captain Claude Giroux, who was hit from behind by Arizona’s Martin Hanzal in the third period.
The 28-year-old center was run into the boards and appeared to hit his head on the ice. The replay shows him appear to be briefly unconscious after the hit. He left the game, but was able to get off the ice under his own power.
Hanzal was given five minutes for boarding and a game misconduct.

Giroux went thru concussion protocol. Said he felt "pretty good" and that "we'll know more tomorrow." I'd be shocked if he didn't play Mon.

#Flyers will have a medical update on Giroux after team returns from PHX this evening. Expect him to play Mon., but nothing is official.

After going through concussion protocol, it appears as though the team is giving indications that he’s ok and likely to play in Monday’s game against the Winnipeg Jets, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Sam Carchidi.
That’s surprising with him appearing to go unconscious.
Giroux had little to say about it after the game, except that the play happened “really quick.”
