The Connecticut Whale have re-signed defenseman Micaela Long to a one-year deal carrying a value of $13,500, the team announced Monday.
Long posted three goals and 10 points in 17 games for the Whale in the NWHL’s inaugural season. She also contributed two assists in the postseason when the Whale were eliminated in the opening round by the Buffalo Beauts.
“The coaching staff is very excited to have Micaela returning to the Whale,” said head coach Heather Linstad. “Micaela has a very good hockey IQ and plays well at both ends of the ice. She is a strong penalty killer with good speed, size, and the willingness to block a shot. In addition, she brings a great attitude to the rink and locker room.”
“I am thrilled to be playing for the Whale again this season,” Long said in a statement. “Last year was a huge success and I’m excited to see what is in store for year two. I’m so happy to continue playing the game I love and to do it in front of our incredible fans! I know we are all looking forward to October.”
Her signing comes as time winds down on the NWHL’s free agency period, which is set to close on July 31.
