Nashville Predators forward Craig Smith was fined $5,000 by the NHL’s Department of Player Safety on Sunday after high-sticking Buffalo Sabres forward Jerry D’Amigo in the face the night before. Smith was given a double minor at 17:50 of the first period.

After accidentally striking D’Amigo in the face, Smith immediately knew what he did and stopped to see if he was okay. Seconds later, blood mixed with vomit fell onto the ice.

The Sabres’ trainer picked up a few of D’Amigo’s teeth and helped him to the locker room.
As any hockey player would, D’Amigo returned at 1:48 of the third period wearing a fish bowl mask.
This is the first time Smith has received discipline in the NHL.
