After a buyout and a rough (likely) final NHL season with the Anaheim Ducks, where he went from the top of the depth chart to the bottom, former 50-goal scorer Dany Heatley went to Germany to play this season.
Now, it appears that he may move over to the Finnish Liiga for the 2016-17 season. According to a report out of Finland, Heatley is poised to sign a deal with the Lahti Pelicans.
This year, playing for the Nuremberg Ice Tigers, he posted 17 goals and 32 points in 46 games.
The 35-year-old winger still has a little gas in the tank, and the move could be driven by Finland’s top level of professional hockey having a little more prestige than Germany’s DEL. As the report notes, it could also be driven by Heatley’s former Thrashers teammate Pasi Nurminen being an assistant coach and owner for the Pelicans.
