David Booth to Sign KHL Deal

Former Toronto Maple Leaf forward David Booth will reportedly be signing a contract with Admiral Vladivostok in the KHL, according to KHL News and a post on Instagram.

Booth took a professional tryout contract with the Florida Panthers during training camp, but, like many veterans this summer, was ultimately released without a contract. He was, in some ways, a victim of the shrinking camp and an increased focus on youth in the NHL that saw many players like Martin Erat, Curtis Glencross, Martin Havlat and others come out of PTOs with no job.

Booth will join an Admiral team that sits at eighth place in the KHL’s Western Conference and features a handful of NHLers including Jonathon Blum (who offered a welcoming note on the Instagram post), former Anaheim Ducks goaltending prospect Igor Bobkov, Niclas Bergfors and Oskars Bartulis.

Booth, 30, played for the Maple Leafs last season, scoring seven goals and six assists in 59 games. Overall, he’s played 502 NHL games, putting up 120 goals and 11 assists in a career that spanned time with the Florida Panthers, Vancouver Canucks and Toronto.

UPDATE:
The signing was confirmed on November 26 in an announcement from Admiral at their website.
