When David Perron signed a two-year, $7.5 million contract with the St. Louis Blues this off-season, it seemed fitting. Perron was originally drafted by the Blues in the 1st round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft before being traded to the Edmonton Oilers, and subsequently being traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins and Anaheim Ducks. A homecoming of sorts seemed all but perfect, except for the fact that Perron is originally from Sherbrooke, Quebec.

The Montreal Canadiens, a team in need of forward help, could have certainly benefited from locking down Perron’s services moving forward; and they reportedly contacted the Blue’s forward to try and accomplish just that. In an interview with RDS, Perron admitted that he had been in contact with the Canadiens and the Blues during the free agency process, but the deal that the Canadiens offered him would have left “too much money” on the table.
In his nine-year NHL career, Perron has scored 141 goals and 332 points in 570 games, totaling at least 20 goals in three separate seasons. The Blues lost former captain David Backes and Troy Brouwer this offseason, making the addition of Perron an important one as they attempt to finally win the Stanley Cup. Perron is just 28, and likely has a lot left to offer.
