The New Jersey devils have released forward Tyler Kennedy from his professional tryout, the team announced Friday night.
The 29-year-old forward has struggled to find a rhythm in recent years, with injuries keeping him out of the lineup regularly in San Jose, declining production changing his usage and bouncing between teams making it increasingly difficult for Kennedy to prove he’s capable of hitting the kind of production he created with Pittsburgh from 2008 to 2012.
Last season, between time spent with the New York Islanders and Sharks, he scored six goals and eight assists through 38 games, missing time on multiple occasions due to injury.
That production was almost equivalent to what the Sault Ste. Marie native was able to produce in a tumultuous first year with San Jose the year before. That season, 2013-14, he put up just four goals and 13 assists through 67 games.
Keep up with tryouts across the league during training camp with The Hockey Writers’ 2015 PTO Tracker.
