Dave Bolland (born June 5, 1986) is a former Canadian ice hockey player, having played his final year in the NHL with the Florida Panthers during the 2015-2016 season. Drafted 32nd overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Bolland split his first two seasons between Chicago and its minor-league affiliate Norfolk Admirals, following four seasons with the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). His first full season came in 2008-09, when he registered 49 points in 81 games, setting career highs in both assists and points in his rookie campaign. While he never became the offensive juggernaut showcased in London, Bolland was a serviceable player for Chicago for five full seasons.
On a team including Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane, and defensemen Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook, Bolland and the Blackhawks captured the Stanley Cup in 2010, the franchise’s first championship in almost 50 years. Bolland had a memorable run, recording eight goals and eight assists in 22 games, finishing the postseason tied for 5th in points along with Dustin Byfuglien. In 2013, he scored the game-clinching goal in game six against the Boston Bruins, helping the Blackhawks to their second championship in four years. Strapped to salary cap restrictions, Bolland was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs in the following offseason for a couple of draft picks.
Bolland’s career took a downward spiral following his trade, as the centreman accumulated many injury problems, limiting him to just 23 games in Toronto. He still managed to register eight goals and four assists during that time, and served as an alternate captain. The following season, Bolland signed with the Panthers, however continuously injury woes caused him to appear in just 78 games over the first two seasons. He was traded to the Arizona Coyotes for the final three years remaining on his contract, but did not play another game due to back troubles.
