David Anthony Backes (born May 1, 1984) is a former American professional ice hockey forward who previously played for the St. Louis Blues, Boston Bruins and Anaheim Ducks. He announced his retirement on Sept 9, 2021, after being signed to one day contract by the Blues. Essentially, he retired as a Blue, a team he spent 10 seasons with and was captain of for five. He finished his 15-year NHL career with 248 goals and 561 points in 965 games and 206 goals and 460 points in 727 games in a Blues uniform.
