Jan Kovář (born March 20, 1990) is a Czech ice hockey player currently under contract for the EV Zug of the Czech Extraliga (ELH). Kovář formerly played five seasons with Metallurg Magnitogorsk of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) and stints with the ELH’s HC Plzeň 1929 and HC Skoda Plzeň. He was undrafted at the NHL level but appeared in one season with the Boston Bruins‘ AHL affiliate Providence Bruins (2018-19), scoring 10 points (4 goals, 6 assists) in 12 games. Signed by the New York Islanders, Kovář’s refusal to report to their AHL affiliate resulted in his contract being terminated. Kovář was named captain of EV Zug for the 2021-22 season after serving as an alternate captain the previous year.

At the international level, Kovář has represented his country on ten occasions, playing in the World Junior Championship Division-1 (2008), World Junior Championship (2010), and World Championship (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2021). He also represented Czechia the the 2018 Olympics when the team finished in 4th place. Kovář will attend his second Olympic Games in Beijing.
