Jay Bouwmeester (born September 27, 1983) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player, having played his final year in the NHL with the St. Louis Blues during the 2019-20 season. Selected 3rd overall by the Florida Panthers in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Bouwmeester spent the first six years of his career with the Panthers, instantly becoming one the league’s top defenseman. Upon the completion of the 2008-09 season, Bouwmeester’s rights were dealt to the Calgary Flames and he signed a six-year contract with his new club. His run in Calgary would last four years and in the 2012-13 season, he was sent to the Blues. Bouwmeester would spent the final seven years of his career with the Blues, winning a Stanley Cup in 2019, solidifying a career worthy of an induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
Internationally, Bouwmeester has represented Canada on 11 occasions, playing in the World Junior Championship (2000, 2001, 2002), World Championship (2003, 2004, 2008, 2012), World Cup of Hockey (2004, 2016), and the Olympic Winter Games (2006, 2014). With that comes five gold medals, including Olympic gold on one occasion, two silver medals, and two bronze medals. Bouwmeester is a member of the Triple Gold Club, having won an Olympic gold medal, World Championship gold medal and a Stanley Cup.
