Jim Schoenfeld (born September 4, 1952) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player, having played his final year in the NHL with the Buffalo Sabres during the 1984-85 season. Drafted 5th overall in the 1972 NHL Entry Draft by the Sabres, Schoenfeld spent the first ten years of his NHL career in Buffalo, serving as captain from 1974 to 1977, and amassing 20 points or more in seven of the ten seasons. He was traded to the Detroit Red Wings during the 1981-82 season and played one more year in Detroit before signing with the Boston Bruins and playing in 39 games during the 1983-84 season. Schoenfeld completed his NHL career with the team that drafted him, producing three assists in 39 games. He retired in 1985.
Schoenfeld made a name for himself during his post-hockey career with stints in both the NHL and the American Hockey League (AHL). From head coach to general manager, to an administration career, Schoenfeld’s track record doubles his time in the NHL. In 1992, he worked for ESPN as a colour commentator and a broadcast analyst during the 1993 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
